That's the funniest part is they act like it makes them a true fan and anyone who dare root for Brady still isn't as hardcore as them.
I don't mind this thread being here -- it's interesting and entertaining. But given it's placement, don't be surprised when non-believers comment. It's irresistible.
My personal take: I don't root for players who leave the team. Vinatieri and Welker and now Brady and Gronk are all but dead to me. They stopped helping the team I've passionately cared about for literally 57 years. I don't blame any of them for making their decisions, and I might be interested to watch how they do, but I don't root for them at all. I wish they had stayed and retired as Patriots, but again that's their personal career choice.
The Brady thing is a little different because of the Brady vs Belichick relative dynastic contribution question. I root for Belichick solely because he's still with the team, and if it turns out he's more responsible, it's good for the team. If Belichick had left and Brady had stayed, I sure as hell would be rooting for Brady to prove he was more important.
Another thought: another reason I hope Belichick is vindicated, is that I hope that his impact on the organization could extend for years even after he retires as coach, hopefully setting the Pats up for continued success. QB's can't have that kind of posthumous impact. If the system was Brady, as some here argue, perhaps correctly, then we're doomed. If the system is Belichick's, we could be saved for years from lapsing into mediocrity.
That's all. I understand that every fan will have a different take.
