More playoffs teams in new CBA

This new proposal is a joke! Do not like an extra team being added. Also not having two BYE teams? What a joke. So a team could go 12-4 or 13-3 and not be rewarded for it.
Chances are good the Pats wouldn't have made the Super Bowl in 2018 without that second bye.

Change of plans.

NFLPA scraps planned vote on CBA by player reps - ProFootballTalk

So, in all likelihood, they knew they didn't have the votes.

Prominent players, the guys you expect to quietly sit back and vote yea since they usually benefit most from new money to the players, were coming out against it. Current leadership might have faced an open revolt if they put this up and lost.

Even purely on revenues, the pre-2011 CBA saw the players get 53 percent of revenues. Here they're being dangled 48.5. Add on top all the crap the CBA still contains.

I hope there’s a strike. Goddamn I hate Goodell and the owners.

Early Bird Bob’s legacy is building a dynasty and turning the league into this greedy apocalyptic wasteland.

I'm amazed that this union leadership is so lousy

thats how they do it? Lol that is terrible

yup. slight twist though, As the west has 5 teams and the east has 4 teams, if the 4th place west team has more points than the 3rd place east team. then they cross divisions and make the playoffs as an east team. and only 2 east teams make the playoffs.

There were instances in the past where Ottawa would win 4 games all year, make the playoffs and go all the way to the Championship game. It's really bush.

No “votes” from anyone other than the rank and file are needed. The ESPN article about this (with quotes from the NFLPA constitution) points this out.

The proposal goes to the rank and file whether or not the executive council or the player reps recommend the proposal.

Because this deal has such obvious failings, yet they are willing to pimp it to their employers.

And that's just the most recent example.

Considering they would have been the #7 seed playing the #2 seed Steelers Wild Card weekend. Not only would it be a strech, it would be impossible.
Then they would have won on WC weekend....who was the number one seed that season anyway..?

As I understand the situation, the CBA proposal (a compromise as always) shouldn't go to the membership and should be rejected because the opinion of posters here, because posters think than one additional playoff team will DOOM the league, perhaps just as it has been doomed by all the decisions since 1920.

Yes, the NFL requires money to succeed. Every business does. And the NFL has done a great job. I believe that all the teams are making money. Is the argument that the players aren't making enough money? If that is the case, they can vote "no". I have a sneaky belief that the players are very happy with the compensations structure. The major problem for players (and for ownership) is for safety, as it should be. And before the deluge comes, I understand that many posters would prefer leather helmets and no penalties.

Leather helmets would be safer as players could no longer use their head as a weapon.

And there are far too many penalties.

SB54 was a #2 seed beating a #1 seed.
SB53 was a #2 seed beating a #2 seed.
SB 52 was a #1 seed beating a #1 seed.
SB 51 was a #1 seed beating a #2 seed.
SB 50 was a #1 seed beating a #1 seed.
SB 49 was a #1 seed beating a #1 seed.
SB 48 was a #1 seed beating a #1 seed.

10 of the past 14 Super Bowl participants were #1 seeds, with 5 of the past 7 winners being #1 seeds. You look real stupid sitting there saying that seeding - especially being the top seed - doesn't matter.

The difference was the majority those "teams" were the Patriots with a healthy offense and top 10 defense

4 out of 14 hardly constitutes a “majority”.

Impressively ridiculous post. Congrats!

Ok, so let's get this straight............

17 games? - so add another game for season-ending injuries to potentially occur

THEN add more playoff teams?!? - now you're setting up the likelihood of some of these playoff games being like the Cardinals vs Panthers pukefest a few years ago when both teams had backup QBs.

Should just go 18 games, 8 playoff teams and get it over with. Instead, there will be some strange transition era in the NFL with an odd number of games and playoff teams. Might as well just rip the bandaid off.
