Looking at the Over The Cap page on Brown, he's not going anywhere until after June 1. The Steelers would be stupid to cut or trade him before then. The dead cap money changes dramatically post-June 1.

Dead cap hit if cut or traded pre-June 1:
2019: $21,120,000
2020: $14,080,000
2021: $7,040,000

Dead cap hit if cut or traded post-June 1:
2019: $7,040,000
2020: $7,040,000
2021: $7,040,000

No draft trade for Brown.

I didn’t love James Harrison here in 2017 and posted frequently about it; I couldn’t stand him for being another pampered Steeler superstar and his “cheaters never win” tweet. Many people on the forum disliked/disagreed with all of my negative Harrison posts. Glad he’s gone.

I get what you are saying but honestly his 180 after the time here and how glowingly he now talks about the Patriots, BB and Brady made it totally worth it.

They can just designate him a post June 1 cut and have the same effect.

I can't see any way the Steelers would let AB come here. The rivalry goes without saying. And especially after what happened with Blount shooting his way out of Pitt and AB doing the same, let's just say it wouldn't go over very well with Steeler fans if AB comes here and wins like Blount did.

Some of them actually believe that the Patriots cheated and paid Blount to find a way to get Pitt to get rid of him. LOL

I thought it was Bell who got caught burning with Blunt.

Ah... I did f0rget that teams can designate two players for post-June 1 cuts.

But they still can't trade him until post June 1, right?

If he's cut. You can't designate someone a post June 1 trade.

Apparently they can't:

I thought you could do the same post June 1 designation in terms of signing bonus acceleration for trades as well. But I guess you can not.

So your original point stands @bresna. Nevermind me.

I don't think he will go for much compensation but Pittsburgh would still block a trade to the Patriots even if our offer is better than others.

Antonio Brown has made a public trade demand. IMO this greatly diminishes the Steelers' leverage because everyone knows they need to get rid of him.

I'm guessing he will go for a 2nd or a 3rd round pick plus a second day pick at most.

Sure the Steelers might not like the idea of trading with the Pats but if the Pats make the best offer, I don't see them turning it down. Steelers need to rebuild, they need draft picks to do that.

This may sound like obnoxious homerism, but do you really think the Steelers front office expects to be competitive with the Patriots in the next few seasons anyway? It makes sense to publicly dismiss any trade to the Patriots now in order to satisfy their fanbase, but if the Patriots make a strong offer I'm sure they'd take it. Then they can just go back to the Steelers fans and talk about how much they fleeced Belichick in the trade.

That said I think the chance of Brown as a Patriot is less that 1%. He's a future Raider.

this is the most ridiculous trade i have ever heard. nobody would be dumb enough to trade a young rookie QB for a punk WR making 20M at the tail end of his prime
Rookie QB?

Every team in the league is looking at Brady's age and expecting a decline/retirement scenario in the very near future.

I disagree VJC, I don’t think the Steelers would deal with the Patriots at all, especially with a player of Brown’s caliber. There is true hatred between the franchises, and they won’t do anything to help the Patriots take over the all time lead for Lombardi’s.

Saw the thread bumped so just wanted to post a reminder of how terrible an idea it would be to trade draft capital for Antonio Brown

We need young guys that fit the mold who can step in and replace some of our aging veterans. This locker room is so tight right now, I would not risk bringing a diva like ABrown into the fold who is a very selfish, me-me-me type player with a proven track record of being a distraction and/or disruption to his team.. literally the same year he signed a mega contract with a monster signing bonus.

Red flags galore, too risky of an investment

The most interesting thing about the multiple Steelers-related story lines is that they have morphed from the Blue Collar Team of the "town that steel built" to the Drama Queens of the NFL.

Yep, its a beautiful thing
