I'd say no, right now, but there is precedent.
Lynn Swann is in because of his post season stuff. Regular season he is similar.

Lynn Swann stats

Edelman stats

Swann lead the league once in TDs and once in punt return TDs. If Edelman ever leads the league in anything (except fumbles recovered :) )...

Ian please merge if I missed another thread.

No chance.

Even if he would add a SB MVP and would have another run like this next year there is such a logjam at WR that it is unreasonable to think he will ever be considered.

Lets say he has a great Super Bowl and two more postseason runs with similar production and clutch plays. Plus two 100 catch 1000 yard seasons.

Then I think he has a chance. As of now, no.

You need to be a dominant player. No pro bowls or all-pros at WR. Unfortunately there is a lot more actual coverage of sports today, so players won’t get in just for being in a dynasty team like the 60s Packers or 70s Steelers. Edelman’s HOF case won’t age well since the stats are underwhelming, but for some incredible playoff runs.

I do think he may have a shot at the Parriots Mount Rushmore. Top 4 of Brady, Gronkowski, Hannah, and Edelman for players only?

I would pick him for the Hall over Eli Manning. At least he is a great player.

Media bringing up the possibility means there's a chance....since they vote on it. He has a chance. Superstar playoffs means more than superstar regular season, and some of the talking heads are validating that belief right now.

In my mind, if he has two more strong regular seasons, and is able to get more rings, then it's a very legit question.

No chance...? For the Hall of Fame?

So what are the qualifications?

I think it was a slam dunk if he had not got busted for PED's. It will be close for Julian and the writers are gonna look for reasons NOT to put him in based on his position...they have him labeled as a slot guy inside the numbers.

To me, his heart, his 'valuable-ness' to the team, his reliability, his numbers, his will.

A chance...yeah there is a chance...and I think a good one, that he gets in.

He isn't an. NFL HoF player. It pains me to write that because as a fan from day one in 1960 I've come to accept that he's my favorite player ever. But, it pisses me off when I hear and see people around here literally dismiss out of hand the very idea that he could even be spoken about as a HoF guy. Outsiders such as Romo and Esiason have suggested he's in the conversation. It's OK for locals such as Rich Keefe to disagree, But, in my opinion, they shouldn't ridicule the thought, as he and others have. Just my opinion.

No. His career regular season stats, whether over time or at their height, compare unfavorably to guys like Terry Glenn, Joey Galloway, Stevie Johnson, and Keenan McCardell. Guys who have no shot of ever getting in. Welker is a longshot and he was a better player.

Think about all the receivers he'll be competing against who will be up after he retires: Torry Holt, Hines Ward, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, AJ Green, Wes Welker, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Jordy Nelson, Demaryius Thomas, eventually Julio Jones and TY Hilton. Not all of those guys will get in, and - homer goggles off - is there any of those you wouldn't have traded for Edelman straight up at their height?

Edelman's been a tremendous player and truly clutch in the playoffs but playoff stats simply mean little to voters except for quarterbacks. And Edelman also doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. He's not an all-time great. He's never been among the 5 best WRs in the league. He's not Randy Moss, he's not Jerry Rice, he's not even near Cris Carter or Andre Reed. Cliff Branch has far better regular season stats, All Pros, three rings, comparable playoff stats, and was only a semifinalist twice and has no chance of ever getting in. Edelman has no chance.

But he is an all-time great Patriot. He'll get that red jacket and deserve every thread in it. We'll never forget him.

Only Hall of Famers from this era of the Patriots are Brady, Belichick, Gronk, and (insofar as he counts) Revis. Slater will be a semifinalist or whatever as they nod to special teams mattering but never sniff a finalist bid, just like Tasker. It's a while out but White could sniff it too. Lots of truly memorable players for all of us though. But let's be honest, the lack of the Hall of Fame or even All Pro caliber players beyond the QB and coach hint at just how great Brady and Belichick have been.

Lynn Swan being in the HOF is a complete joke. Was a very good player for about 5 years and had some memorable Super Bowls while playing on a great defensive team. Him being in over contemporary, Stanley Morgan is a travesty.

Jules is having a Bruschi type of career. Solid regular season player but takes it up a notch in the post season and always seems to come up huge in the biggest of moments. All time great Patriot but that will be as far as it goes.

Even with the competition being what it is at CB I still think Law has a decent shot, there's a reason he hasn't been kicked to the curb yet.

Generally anyone who's a finalist will eventually make it so Law seems likely but I meant post-2010ish by "in this era." Really if we define it, it's the Gronk Era.

So it's Gronk that hasn't played with enough HoFers? :D

Love Edelman but no. Then again, who cares about the HoF? It’s all about the rings.
