Whilst I agree with your thoughts supa, I see the Browns bundling picks into future drafts to embark on a Belichick build. I see this as a smart strategy for Cleveland and I think Lombardi knows it.
I think it's possible that we're both going to end up being right on some level. I think you're right in the fact that CLE continues to move a couple of picks into future drafts through some draft day wheeling and dealing, a la Belichick style for the future, and that they're on a better path. I also think there's a chance that I'm right that they are a little further along in some areas than people realize, and can instantly be a 9-7 (or so) team with the addition of just a semi-capable QB.
Now, how much Phil Taylor comes into either scenario remains to be seen and is anyone's guess of course. If I am CLE, I hold onto Taylor. I think there'd have to be an offer that would just blow me away to even consider moving him. Just my opinion.
Unless Kelly returns soon and Armstead shows he's capable of doing more than sitting on the pine, BB needs to make a proper move to shore up the run D. The current group isn't getting it done.
From your lips to Belichick's ears, aus. At least I hope. My concerns for the current run defense are getting to be in the chicken little category, especially after witnessing what could have been in the first month of the season.
I feel like a hungry dog who had a filet mignon dangled in front of him, only to have it yanked away after one small bite.
