There are four choices:
- $3,317,000—first- and third-round picks as compensation
- $2,611,000—first-round pick
- $1,835,000—second-round pick
- $1,200,000—no compensation, but right of first refusal
Which one would you give him? Right now, I'd use a first-round tender, minimum.
Excellent Query, sir, and excellent answer.
As the Founding Father of the
RFA BenJarvus Green + Trade Him To The Highest Bidder Club, I think either the 1st or 2nd Round Tenders would've been good answers.

~ Tenders set the Floor for Salaries, obviously.
~ They also set the nominal
Ceiling for Trade Compensation, for all practical purposes,
Wes Welker being a notable exception.
~ I have speculated that the Market Value for Green is going to be consecutive 3rd Rounders and Change.
~ As such, it behooves us to choose a Tender that designates
greater Compensation than that, in the event that somebody tries to
Steve Hutchinson us.
~ Green has an extremely attractive blend of Youth and Experience, coupled with exceptional health, years of great coaching, and ~ oh, yes ~ a 1000 Yard + 13 TD season under his belt, an ASTONISHING record of Ball Security, and, most of all: VERY little tread wear on those tires. As such, I put his Market Value in the
$3,000,000 ~ $5,000,000 per year range.
~ Letting Green roll would punch an hole in our RB Depth, but it's one very easily repaired.
~ And while I've come to like and appreciate Green, he is a very stiff + limited Runner: he really should've gone
4.8 - 5.0 YPC, behind that Line.
~ There is a LOT of room for improvement: Explosive players, late in the Draft, and at a dramatically lower cost than that Green is likely to go for.
Given the limitations of The Cap, I'm hoping somebody either coughs up that 2nd Rounder to sign him, or works out a slightly reduced deal with us. That would be a MAJOR win for us: We could significantly improve Running Back AND haul in a juicy Pick or three.
