Will Bryant Gumbel Cheapen Our Historical Moment?

Having memories of Bryant Gumbel calling this game would be like bringing a paid escort to your brothers wedding. No matter how much time passes, that is a black eye on the occasion forever.

I am hoping somebody poisons his lunch and he comes down with a temporary stomach flu like they do when rigging Tennis matches, this may be our only hope boys.

A win in Superbowl 42 would be even more of an historical moment.

Rick Romo meet Bob Brady.

I actually like his brother Greg quite a bit. I preferred him and Phil Simms far more then Jim Nantz/Phil Simms .
Me, too. Nantz is good, but Greg Gumbel was better. He has a perfect football play-calling voice. Well, almost perfect. Al Michaels is pretty damn good, too.

I will enjoy hearing Bryant Gumbel for nostalgic reasons. I don't think I've heard him do FOOTBALL since he anchored the halftime show in the --- early 1980s, was it? So I'm out of touch with his recent work, and don't understand all the hatred here. I may be biased too, since he and I went to the same small college (at different times).

Somple solution for Bryant haters: mute the sound and listen to to Gil & Geno. Gil can use a better spotter, but the guys know their football.

Yeah but its a 5-10 second delay on radio...

I love Gil's voice but i think he should add a little more excitement when the Patriots score a TD or come up with a signature post-touchdown call; like "TOUCHDOWN New England Patriots". He sort of mellow (sometimes) or tends to repeat the call twice to get the players name.

I HATE, repeat HATE Bryant Gumbell. Before last year's first game on NFLN, i had never heard the guy do PBP. I almost puked the first time i heard him.
My worst memory is the '06 season, Thanksgiving day game between KC and Denver. It's a tradition, thanksgiving day, you would expect a lot of excitement, energy. But NO! all he kept saying "He appears to have the first down' .. "turned the ball over on downs' ...

I think I dislike him more than you, but I think you get to the worst thing about him, apart from everything else. His VOICE sucks. It's impossible for him to convey excitement with that little simpy voice of his.

Well, not only that but he sounds like he's talking to his tax accountant instead of calling a football game. I think Gumbel is more interested in sounding "cool" and "suave" than serving the viewers.

I don't want to sound dumb here but isn't each network having their own announcers? If I don't like Gumbel cant i just turn to one of the other networks and listen to their guys instead?

The game will be a Simulcast. CBS, ABC (WCVB- Boston), NBC will all have the same EXACT feed.

I wish there was some sort of Radio-DVR so i can synch up both tv and radio so there is no delay.

I think I hate Bryant Gumbel more than I hate Peyton.

I'm actually thinking about not watching the game because of this idiot.
each network should have their own announcers that's not fare.

The NFL makes 4.5 billion dollars every year and this is the best they can do. I say we all boycott the NFL network until they fire this Gumbel bastard.
we should protest to fire him just like Knicks fans did to Asiah.

and miss a Pats game, I rather listen to the drivel or the radio feed

I can't believe that the NFL is still using this bozo in what is now being billed as the biggest regular season game. I keep opening this thread hoping to read that someone has caught some news that there's been a change. Gumbel is freakin HORRIBLE! :enranged:

Watch the comments, guys.

although i hate him, chris collinsworth is usually a pretty good color guy. he really knows the rule book, and the history of the game. he is quite the dork - http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=198677
gumbel will no doubt say the dumbest things throughout the game. he will tell you its a first down when its not, he will tell you its a holding call when its pass interference, and he will call tom brady a linebacker.

The other one is that after ANY TD or even a field goal: "And just like that..."
I still cant believe that nobody at NFLN has told him to stop doing the "it would appear he has a first down" even after a 45 yd run.
