The Herald has the apparent 53: The Blitz with Jeff Howe & Karen Guregian | Boston Herald

We expect additions at DT, perhaps OL, perhaps TE, and any other position if the staff thinks an upgrade is possible? So who's most likely to make room for additions?

The obvious answers are:

  • 1 or more of the 6 RBs, especially for a TE.
  • 1 or more of the 11 DBs.
  • Chris McDonald, but probably only for another OL.
In particular, Ebner and Bolden are candidates for the IR.

I thought there would be a couple guys put on PUP, e.g. Cunningham and maybe still Ebner don't know if Bolden is a candidate for that.

I do think they may add another TE, DT, and OL with McDonald and maybe Tarpinian first guys out.

A lot of players should not celebrate yet.

Aside from practice squad designations, the Patriots made 12 transactions between cutdown day & the opener last year.

McDonald and Tarpinian shouldn't be making any long term plans. It seems like something is brewing with Adrian Wilson-saw a tweet on the Herald site that they were evaluating a hamstring injury with him. Ebner may very well end up on IR. It would seem like one of the RBs would be going, whether it's a trade, IR or just released.

One thing is sure--the 53 that are currently on the roster won't be the 53 that are there on opening day.

Nobody can go on PUP unless they were already there to begin training camp.

Tarpinian is a real head scratcher. Is he that good on ST? I don't believe so.

I believe one of the local writers referred to McDonald as the human turnstile.

Develin and Hooman seems a little redundant.

I don't know how Bequette made it even if you want to say he showed up for game 4.

I think Tarpinian is pretty good. He seems to be in on a lot of tackles, particularly on special teams. I get the sense that BB likes him. With all that said I'm guessing he's on the bubble like a few others. Could make it, or could be out.

The team is reportedly checking into a hamstring injury for Adrian Wilson. Could help make their decision for them.

surprised devlin made it. havent had a pure fb since heath evans. would love to see hI'm stick but could easily see him cut later.

I agree with this premise, though who is released in particular will likely be determined by injury. Bolden, Ebner, and new reports suggesting Adrian Wilson, are all dealing with ailments, and could find themselves placed on IR.

5 RBs and Develin is a bit heavy, especially with Hoomanawanui on the roster as a Tight End/Fullback.

5 Cornerbacks is fine, though 6 Safetys is heavy. Ebner or Wilson's injury could decide who goes.

If a veteran becomes available, I'd be packing early if I was McDonald.

That's a shame about A.Wilson. That will hurt at safety if he's out for awhile (or cut of course).

If you had been paying attention to who was playing on the ST teams, this would not be a surprise.

Tarp was the ONLY ST-only outside of the Specialist Six, to be playing there. All the others are newcomer, regular reserves. It also answers why the returns have been spotty. Scotty O'Brien hasn't had a chance to stabilize and consolidate the ST soldiers yet.

So, we are at 52 and have the obvious need at DT.

To season-ending IR. I don't think we'll be seeing him in a Pats uniform.

The Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, for starters.

Yeah, I would hope that they're currently on the phone with Marvin Austin. He already has a knack for beating up AFCE QB's as we saw last week with Mark Sanchez.

Nope, doesn't look like it Mack. Chances are that they probably could've designated him at their IR-exempt player if they chose to want to do so.

So far out of the big 3 vets who were brought in during FA, Tommy Kelly is the only one that's looked worth a damn. Leon Washington and Adrian Wilson have been major disappointments.

My guess is that they are just being respectful with Wilson, and they have decided he is done. There is still hope for Washington. I still think he will be an improvement at KR (not saying much there).

Make that 51 and the obvious need at DT.

If it were by trade, I would have thought it would have happpened already (see: Seahawks-Jags). If by waiver wire, we need, what--28 teams to pass?
