In my opinion, Troy is still very valuable to this team for his versatility and experience

Also, I think it's an easy decision on who goes- either Matt Cassell or Matt Gutierrez. If Brady goes down, so help us all. I don't think Cassell will ever be a very good QB, and I don't think Gutierrez will ever play. I guess cut Gutierrez simply because Cassell knows the system.

Another less popular option would be to cut Tom Brady. His contract eats a lot of the salary cap, and his end of consecutive 3-TD games just ended. In fact his TD pace is now only 57, with a QB rating of only 128.

I would rather have Troy Brown at cornerback than Eddie freaking Jackson.

I almost think its a move of respect from the Pats. I almost think they are giving him money while keeping him on PUP so he doesn't get a roster spot.

I was going to say if he's taking defensive snaps in practice, bye bye Eddie.

The problem with Troy Brown is at his age and with his injuries he will not be able to fill any of the special teams duties of the possible players he would replace (Washington, Jackson, Baker). Gaffney has pretty much solidified the 4th WR spot and Washington sees about 2 snaps a game, if that, as the fifth WR but provides value on special teams. So im not sure where Brown would fit in or what value he would provide other than giving him a roster spot as a courtesy for the service he has provided....but I dont seen Belichick doing that as he values all 53 spots on our roster. By no means do I like Baker or Jackson in the game on defense and cleary Andrews hasnt progressed on that side of the ball and Merriwether is further away than we all expected, but I cant see them using Brown on defense.

IR Mel Mitchell, have Troy contribute on S/Ts. He deserves to be on this team and while BB tends not to be sentimental, in this case, I think it helps Troy's cause.

Just because Washington hasn't played doesn't mean Brown won't. I'd expect him to split time at #4 WR with Gaffney. Mostly, the insurance is the key, as he can come into the game as an emergency type player to fill any number or positions. Most of it is the trust the team has in him. You just don't get nervous when Troy Brown takes the field, regardless of position or role. Honestly, would you feel more comfortable with Troy Brown or Matt Cassell at QUARTERBACK ???

Troy Brown can play the offense well, special teams well, and defense passingly. He's a perfect plug-in Patriot. Is Eugene Wilson actually coming back? There's a candidate right there, but if not him - yeah, there a few others who I'd rather see take a hike before letting an asset like Brown go, provided he is fully recovered.

Yeah, Mitchell hasn't played in a few weeks, and he's clearly superfluous whether he's injured or not if Eddie Jackson and Rashad Baker are playing over him.

Personally I think (barring unforeseen injuries - the IR kind),

    that

    1) The Patriots will put Kareem Brown on IR
    line depth is:

    Seymour
    Wilfork
    Warren
    Green
    Wright
    LeKevin
    Santonio

He wont see the field this year.

    2) activate Troy Brown (53 man squad)

    3) keep him on the inactive list until/unless needed. 1 of 8 inactives
This way we keep all the special team players.
They could even activate him for a couple of games to give him reps.

I, along with many others think Troy will be around the Pats orginization long after his playing days and with that being so I'd really like him to be part of this special season.

I completely forgot Kareem Brown even existed.

Are we going to dress Troy Brown each week to stand on the sidelines? I love Troy Brown, but I don't see how he helps this team. Any reasons to activate him are purely sentimental, and that typically doesn't fly around here. Now, can we IR Kareem Brown to activate Troy Brown? Sure, I suppose it wouldn't hurt. But all that's accomplished is that we've changed the identity of a gameday inactive.

    It accomplishes this:

If we have an injury or 2 (yes it can happen) then he's activated.
Kareem Brown cant catch, play cornerback, return punts or...etc...

No, besdies that you now have more WR and DB depth, and less DL depth.

I think having the WR and DB depth is more important because Kareem isn' going to play anytime soon, anyway.

That said, what I would do is cut Kelly Washington and sign Brown.

Could you imagine Brown and Welker in the slot with Stallworth and Moss on the outside? Good luck with that one!

I love Troy, but he's not better than any reciever on our roster. If someone like Mitchell is looking at IR, then we could use him on ST and as a DB. Other than that, I just can't see how we carry 6+ WR's.
