Maybe he says this to the media to defend Al who has been critisized in the past of giving away draft picks and good players and signing poor players but maybe he means it,who knows?.

Seymour with his new team apparently is now a locker room guy who has been a mentor to the younger players, but I really never heard of him being a locker room influence to our younger players when he was here,it was always Bruschi or Harrison mentioned that was known for motivation and Seymour for being an "its all about me" type player.

I think his first season as a Raider was mediocre but apparently Cable thinks he got a steal for a 1st rounder.

Seymour's extention long term in Oakland will probably be a ridiculous high number in an uncapped season which could be a reason Seymour has not yet whined about being tagged because he knows he will probably be one of the top paid DL in the league, next to Kelly.

I can see both sides of the Seymour trade argument. I don't think there's a right or wrong so much as a philosophy of how to do business. But if you're a Pats fan who thinks it was a bad deal, you can't feel too good that Tom Cable agrees with you...

The way the Raiders have drafted the past few years, it was a good move.. Will it help them in the grand scheme of things, probably not..

Compared to how well the Raiders draft I'd say Seymour was well worth the 1st rounder too.

Why does there have to be a winner and a loser? I see the trade as a win-win for each franchise.

I hope the raiders win around 5 games next year....

Honestly I can see the Raiders going 8-8 or 9-7 if they can finally swallow their pride and admit that it's NOT the best idea to start the 2007 #1 overall pick because he's NOT actually good.

Right. And if he REALLY means it, he looks no worse than he did all last season.

This is comical given the entire team less seymour is reportedly being shopped in hopes of dumping some of the insane if not idiotic payroll and roster decisions the old coot has entered into over the last 3-4 seasons...

And even Al knows he's likely going to have to go to the mat to maintain the appearance he got any value in Seymour. He exclusive tagged him, meaning he can't talk to anyone else, which means Al figured he was probably going to be inclined to because aside from $$$, who really wants to play for the Raiders these days even after they get the old man's $$$. LOL

The Raiders are crippled by Asomugha's contract and now they need to shell out big money for Seymour too or risk getting nothing for their 2011 1st rounder! Yup they are in a ton of trouble.

The way i have looked at the trade in hindsight is right now we lost a year of seymour for a 1st round pick that has on average been about 4-8 pick in the draft. Would we have won it all with seymour last year? people can debate but i doubt it. I think it was a good trade for the raiders because basically instead of trying to get him in free agency with big $$$ they got him a year earlier and can still lock him up for the same money and its a good trade for the pats because if we pick right we can secure another franchise level talent. So in reality i really do think it was a win win for all

If Seymour had played for the Patriots in 2010, they may well have been a better team, and might have gotten past the first round of the playoffs. Maybe. But we'd be at the point where the Jets or the Dolphins would be figuring out how to sign him, making them better and putting the Patriots in right about the same spot as they are right now.

"This trade my boss made was almost as stupid as when he drafted Jamarcus Russell."

Then Cable could get fired and Al could refuse to pay the balance of his contract, and then he could be the coach of USC within a couple of years.

    How cool is that?

Its a win for the Raiders right now and will continue to be a win until we use that draft pick and pick up a quality player and not a bust. If we draft a bust then the Raiders got a great deal, if we draft a all-pro then we got a great deal.
Right now all we have is a possible opportunity to pick up a potential franchise player.

It's not just Asomougha. You can get away with overpaying for talent if it's elite and it performs. Thing is on that team it doesn't matter because the QB situation and the coaching turmoil has made it truly a black hole where anything you invest is wasted. The deals for JaMarcus and a couple of other severely overpaid FA's like Walker and Kelly and poor drafting has really hamstrung that organization for the forseeable future. Overpaying for mediocre talent is the kiss of death. Signing Seymour will just be the icing on the cake. When the cap comes back in 2011-12 it will implode. They had a $152M payroll in 2009...and they won 5 games.

In evaluating the trade from the Raiders' standpoint, who we draft is not a factor at all. If Seymour is a productive player for them for several years, then it will be a good deal for them. If the Patriots draft a player who is productive for 4-5 years, then it's a good trade for the Patriots. What makes this trade a good or bad one from Oakland's perspective has no bearing on NE, and vice versa.

Please tell me that you weren't trying to call Seymour a "mediocre talent".

I was really expecting Cable to throw Al Davis under the bus and decry such a stupid short sighted move.

NOT! (please forgive the early 90s cliche')

In Al Davis' universe, well, it actually makes sense. :D
