I think we tend to forget our roots sometimes and forget how many mediocre players who flashed potential but burned out quickly have come through here

For me, my years as a diehard fan go back to the mid 1980s

Hence, to go along with the standard All-Time Greatest Patriots threada that show up in the offseason (along with the occasional All-Time Worst") - this is the All-Time Mediocre Team... I started with Offense because its just a lot easier to quantify mediocrity on that side of the ball

I'm thinking in terms of guys who weren't awful, but drove us crazy by teasing us with their potential

Here's a few of mine:

Corey Croom
Ray Crittenden
Scott Sisson
John Vaughn
Ivy Joe Hunter
John Stephens
Reggie Dupard
Will Moore
Derrick Cullors
Tony Simmons
Bethel Johnson
Cedric Cobbs
And all the QBs from 1991/1992

I'm sure others must have some nominations as well?

1990s/2000s

QB: Tommy Hodson
RB: Leonard Russell
FB: Tony Carter
WR: Vincent Brisby
WR: Irving Fryar
WR: Hart Lee Dykes
TE: Lovett Purnell
OT: Pat Harlow
OT: Adrian Klemm
OG: Todd Rucci
OG: Max Lane
C: (One spot where I couldn't really find anyone - Wohlabaugh, Woody, and Koppen have all been beyond mediocre)

Too many RBs to choose from. Stephens, Russell (my choice because he flashed the most ability and had the best and longest lasting career of the bunch despite it being purely mediocre)... reaching further into the vault, Butts, Vaughn, Cobbs. Really, the only pre-Martin RB in the 90s that was any good at what he did was Leroy Thompson, who could run the ball (he had something like 8 TDs on the ground in 1994 with Butts) and had great hands.

I remember seeing Lovett Purnell in a college all-star game, DOMINATING, and then being so psyched when the Patriots drafted him. Oh well.

Ken Sims was the definition of mediocre.

A decent DL. But not near a #1 overall.
