Nice piece, with comments from Rodney.. hope that his imput will be part of the coverage this year... concerned with all of the below, but #1 and #3 anticipate changing quite a bit as those must have been embarassing for BB...

These hot Patriots topics need to be covered - The Boston Globe

1. Third Down Defense
2. Brady's return
3. Better Red Zone Defense
4. Filling the Vrabel void
5. Carving out an identity
..

Rodney nail it with the 3rd down and red zone D, what else would we expect. The Offseason moves tell the story of where BB felt the D failed last year.

I still remember 3rd and 15 (?) last season against the Jets in overtime. :(

Damn shame, that Cassel to Moss hookup was really one of the greatest Pats regular season moments ever but will always be kind of forgotten due to the loss.

So, we've identified 1, 3 and 4 as problems and all agreed that they aren't problems.

Okee dokee.

How will Pierre Woods detrators reconcile their dislike for Woods with their acknowledgement of Harrison's analysis:

Harrison thinks four-year veteran Pierre Woods is the leading candidate.

“I see him as a phenomenal young talent, a hard-working talent who is smart and will do whatever they ask him to,’’ he said.

They wont. They'll just keep saying the same thing. "Woods is aweful"

He's the leading candidate.

It's like a town election where nobody wants to run, somebody has to be the leading candidate.

I guess they have to write SOMETHING just prior to camp, and as usual, Reiss' efforts are the best of the bunch. At least he TRIES to see beyond the obvious and go into some depth.

If Woods, or whoever starts at OLB opposite Thomas, can set a hard edge on early down running plays, then we should be fine. BB sends in TCB or whomever to generate a pass rush on 3rd and long.
