Recent cuts worth a look

Now that everything has played out with cuts, who would you like to see the Pats show some interest in?
I'll go with...
DB-Chevis Jackson-sure fire tackler, a little questionable in space though
DB-DeAngelo Smith-respectable Cb prospect out of Cin.
CB-Nathan Vasher- Injury issues, but was once considered a top CB.
DE-Jarron Gilbert-Loved this guy coming out, maybe BB could get him going.
DE-Marcus Dixon-He's flashed he and there in preseason.
OT-Jon Jansen- Quality OL, with a little left in the tank
WR-Blair White- Probably a little redundant on this team, but potential is there
RB-Lonyae Miller- This is one of my favorites. Played well in preseason for Cowboys. He could replace BJGE
LB-Bobby Carpenter- Could be a decent situational backer
S-Myron Rolle- Lacks speed, but has the head for the game

I think you have to ignore upside when looking at who we may pick up from other teams cuts (but for the practice squad).
The optimistic view of what these guys could be or could be again for aging players is a trap because their team dumped them for a reason.
The moves we make from the waiver wire are normally bit pieces that are a better fit for a small role than a guy we have (such as a 3rd TE who is a 275lb undersized OT, or a special teams ace from a team that undervalues sts) or a guy who seems to be better suited to our system than someone elses. Granted there is a Delatha Oneal every now and then, but they are rare.

I wouldn't call DeAngelo Smith "highly touted," though some of us were interested in him as a late round/UDFA project.

Just say "no" to Bobby Carpenter.

Yeah "highly touted" may have been a reach, but I had him as a mid rounder binky. Either way I corrected my assesment of him to "respectable".

Nathan Vasher is the only one on that list that, despite his recent history, could be an immediate impact type. As Andy stated, we need guys who can step in now and make a difference, big or small. We are not in a situation where we can pick up players and wait for them to develop or recapture whatever they had (except Vasher of course).
