Patriots Fortunes Depend on Aging Quarterback - BostonHerald.com

Scum like Borges, Tomase, ShagNasty, and their vile, contemptible ilk either enrage me or amuse me, depending on my mood.

In the case of Borges, it's a shame: There's actually a knowledgeable FootBall mind buried deep within the fecal catacombs of his lonely, bitter Soul.

I once counted him a full, voting member of the legendary crew that once graced the hallowed halls of the Sports Section of The Pravda.

    But, alas: no more.

    ***

I couldn't help but notice his frantic, fervent attempts to redirect attention AWAY from this moronic article ~ which the Herald has BURIED, of course ~ by cranking out not one but TWO "positive" pieces in the wake of last night's great game. Can't claim I READ either piece, as I have to be in a PARTICULARLY tranquil mood ~ and wearing gloves, of course ~ to brave on of Borges's missives...

But I WAS curious to see if he'd broken 30 years of precedent and admitted that his moronic self was spectacularly and pathetically WRONG, so I actually "Control F'd" the articles for "wrong"!!

Well, he's right he is aging, we all are, but a 34 year old QB...well let's hope he stays healthy for another 5-6 years including this one. I'm counting on 3 more SBs.

Why even read Borges? His age of QBs winning Super Bowls in the salary cap era thing is flawed.

First, in the mid to late 90s and even the early 2000s there was a draught of elite QBs. It was a defense wins championship era where if you got over 3,000 yards passing it was a stellar season. The QB class of 1982 had started to slow down or retire and there really was not class that produced more than one elite QB. Aikman retired young because of concusions. Marino didn't get back to the Super Bowl after age 24 long before he hit 30. Young got one over 30. Rich Gannon went to one in his mid30s.

Other than Favre and Warner, what QB over 33 has ever been elite in their careers over the last ten years prior to Brady and Manning reaching that age. Favre choked in the playoffs before he got to 33 and Warner was in a Super Bowl after 33.

Second, the last decade has been dominanted mostly by three teams in the AFC - the Pats, Colts, and Steelers. When you have two of the greatest QBs of all time and one of the consistently greatest defense, it doesn't give many older QBs opportunities to go to the Super Bowl.

I just stopped reading any of them, it's really not that hard and after a few days it's like they dont even exist, try it. If everyone did that they wouldn't have jobs.

While TFB is, without a doubt, aging, so what?

What's relevant is whether a player's skills are declining, which usually correlates with age and injury but it doesnt necessarily have to, I'd take plenty of QB in the latter part of their careers instead of the earlier part, Steve Young is a great example.

Unfortunately TFB is a victim of his own success, winning 3 SBs at such a young age is a tough act to follow, and the lack of recent SB victories gets in the way of people realizing that he IS aging but like fine wine.

I agree. I wish he would have picked up the third and one near the end of the game, especially since the line gave him an hour to throw the ball.

But it did give our putrid defense a few more snaps of experience.

The defense and Oline depth are the two major pot holes on the road to Indy.

Ironic that Mr. 511 Yards is in his PRIME, while Mr. TABLOID EXILE is past his.

Dear Mr. Borges, as the wisest of wise men said, 'it is what it is'.

It's pretty simple: if you don't care for Borges (or any other sports writer), don't read him; it's not as if it's impossible to avoid him.

Need help with alternate suggestions? Off the top of my head there is Mike Reiss, Ian Rapoport, Karen Guregian, Greg Bedard, Shalise Manza-Young, Monique Walker, Jeff Howe, Michael Hurley, Erik Frenz, Christopher Price, Kirk Minihane, Mike Petraglia, Tom Curran, Mary Paoletti, Mike Giardi, Nick Underhill, Jim Donaldson, Mark Farinella, Jennifer Toland, Rich Garven, Erik Scalavino, Andy Hart, Paul Perillo, the half dozen or so that write here, and probably a dozen or more at other local sites I forgot about.

It's not like Borges is the only person who writes about the Pats. If you're going to be angry then you should be mad at yourself for reading a column by a writer that you have already decided that you didn't like, when you literally had dozens of other choices.

    The article is really dumb.

First off, he is cherry picking to help his argument because just a few years prior to the salary cap we had Simms and Montana. That hurts his argument so he arbitrarily uses the salary cap. I don't see how the salary cap prevented good old QB's from winning.

Secondly, a big problem is there was a changing of the guard in the mid 90's with Young, Marino, Aikman, etc all hanging it up and handing the league over to pretty much Favre until Manning came along. There were some flash in the pan QB's to have their moments in that time (Gannon, Warner, etc), but it wasn't until Brady emerged that the 'new guard' started shaping up.

The fact that the best QB in the late 90's early 00's were guys like Testaverde and Bledsoe isn't an indication of how Brady will do when he's 35-37 years old. 17 years is a lot, but it's a cherry picked argument so he could have an article up by today.

If Colin Cowherd can ridicule your article, you know you wrote a really stupid article.

As someone previous suggested, I stopped reading Bogus a long time ago. when I hear him on the radio, I change the station. Ditto if I see him on the TV. He doesn't deserve one second of my attention and I am much happier for it.

He keeps it by deliberately pissing off Patriot fans and getting tons of attention from those efforts, just like this.

Fortunately for Patriot fans every time Borges says Brady or the Patriots will fail they do just the opposite. The likelihood of another SB win has gone up significantly.
