Two players in the final years of their contracts with declining roles...but the upside for Hicks is astronomically higher than it is for Hoomanawanui. Weird on the Saints' end.

PriscoCBS: Watch how good Akiem Hicks plays for the Patriots.

@JeffDuncan_: A little more than a year ago, the #Saints viewed Akiem Hicks as a foundation piece of their D line. Now, he’s a Patriot.

@AlbertBreer: Last year, New England added spare parts Jonathan Casillas and Akeem Ayers in-season to D via trade. This year, Jon Bostic and Akiem Hicks.

some highlights of his 2013 season, so you can see what he is capable of:

He's a big dude. Looks like he'll be a sub UT here, maybe due to Easley's continued health struggles?

Maybe the Saints are trying to contribute to the Pat's FU tour during a rebuilding year. That would be awesome if true.

I remember this guy.

Dude is one big boy.

Is BB trying for a record for the greatest defense/offense headcount disparity? :)

@MarkDanielsPJ: Hicks started all three games this season for the Saints. He started 30 of 31 games over the past two seasons.

This trade is just dumb from the Saints end.

He's called a DE, but his size makes me think his arrival has nothing to do with either of them.

Ya my guess is BB envisions him as a DT

Definitely a DT in our defense. Similar build to Alan Branch but more athletic.

Doesn't look good for either Chris Jones, Alan Branch, or both.

I think Hooman will do good over there blocking for Ingram. Saints fans are disappointed but I think he is underrated as a pass catcher (not great) and will provide an extra boost to their running game.

What did they give the saints in return?
