In my opinion, our top priorities for this offseason are as follows:
1) Cornerback - The Cornerback position is in need of a revamp (again). McCourty's true position is still in flux and may eventually find himself manning the left side again next season. But if a tall, physical Cornerback can be acquired to start across from Dennard (whether it be Talib or someone in the mold of Sean Smith, or even Dowling if he emerges), then McCourty can return to Safety. Outside of the top 2 Cornerbacks, the Slot and further depth needs to be improved. Arrington is decent in the slot but is horrendous on the outside. Having him, Cole, and a bunch of special teamers filling out the Cornerback depth chart is not something that should remain the status quo.
2) Wide Receiver - Receivers under contract for next year are Lloyd and Slater (not really a WR). This team lacks a tall, strong, physical Wide Receiver who can take the top off the defense and come down with the jump balls. Lloyd was our tallest receiver at 6'0. This team needs bigger. And above all, especially younger. Potential resignees would be Welker and Edelman. Welker's future could be tied to the cap and Edelman isn't that durable. I expect a total revamp.
3) Defensive Tackle - Outside of Vince Wilfork, who is there? Love really fell off in terms of quality of play as the year went on, and Deaderick wasn't that much better. The Patriots need to find a young DT to start next to Vince and add an interior rush they haven't had since Mike Wright. Additionally, Vince is getting old. A replacement will be needed soon.
4) Safety - This position hinges upon the future of McCourty. If he moves back to Cornerback, then upgrades will be needed. If McCourty stays at Safety, the team would look to add someone in the mold of a Strong Safety.
5) Offensive ine - Could lose Vollmer. Cannon is a project. Connolly and Mankins are getting old and fought injury. Never too much depth.
