It seems to me that you're taking one of Parcells' greatest strengths and trying to portray it as a weakness. Yes, Parcells has a massive ego. He's a media whore. And in an entertainment business, that's golden! I can't think of another sports executive since Red Auerbach who has combined gametime success with media magnetism so well.
Just a few short weeks ago, the Miami Dolphins were desperately scraping to avoid the ignominy of the NFL's first winless season. They were sad sacks on the field, unable to fill their stadium, and Dolphins gear was languishing on store shelves. As for next year, good luck on attracting any quality free agents.
By hiring Parcells, the Dolphins instantly made themselves relevant. He moved fast to start remaking the organization in his own image -- building buzz and excitement and wiping the past season out of fans' minds in record time. The team won't be good in 2008, or probably 2009...but does anybody doubt that Parcells will do better than the braintrust that drafted Ted Ginn?
And in the meanwhile, Bill's presence makes sportswriters local and national prick up their ears.
Good hire by Miami.
