Other Team's Potential Cuts

I'll admit, Lewis has my interest piqued. Physically, he's talented.

He's probably my favorite option of all of the guys that could potentially be available. For most teams he would be an automatic cut based on his contract, but Jacksonville has so much cap space and so little talent that they might just pay him. He is so vital to them just as a blocker that they might overpay him instead of looking for a replacement. If he does become available though I would be very interested.

Was wondering if the post came with all the spit and a few WWF action figures. Could be Mulligans greatest fan posting.

Demarcus Ware would be a dream come true. He played injured most of the season. I still think he has a lot of football left in him.

Ware can play LE, or RE and you can create a lot of confusion moving him and Chandler around the line.

He is only 31 years old so if he hits the UFA market I would expect him to cost more than we would be willing to spend. I am with you though his impact as a pass rusher is incredible, he has been the most productive pass rusher in the past decade.

He was very productive with Garrard as the QB back in 2010 but has been on a steady decline since then. My concern would be that he has only made a reception on 58% of the times targeted in his career (53% in 2013). I do not know if that is a product of playing with some awful QBs in his career or an indication that he doesn’t have a great set of hands.

Too bad he's been banned. I got a kick out of reading his stuff, even for how ridiculous and hard to read it was.

Appreciate the correction.... But you understood the point.

He will count against roughly $22m of the lions cap. In the context of the discussion, "people who could be cut due to their large cap number" this is relevant.

What i meant by my "i can't believe he is getting this" was more in relation to i can't believe they let his cap number be $22m in one year.

So if his salary is 12M and his cap is 22M, then his amortization is 10M alone. And if there are more years left on his contract then cutting him could make all the other unamortized bonuses hit. That's some great cap management. Impossible to keep, impossible to cut. I guess they turn his salary into a signing bonus again, might as well.

Louis Delmas is an easy $5.5m for them, and Nate Burleson is a somewhat expensive way to cut another $5m off the roster. Suh's numbers take a big drop for next season, from $22.4m to $13.2m, so Suh's deal is just a one year issue for the Lions.

Starting next season, it's Calvin Johnson + Matthew Stafford that will have the effect of killing the Lions cap ($38m between them in 2015, $46m between them in 2016).

How much do you think he'd command?

I know it's a long shot but my favorite potential cut is Julius Peppers. I think he would be amazing in our uniform. If you put him opposite Chandler Jones, I think you'd have something special. I haven't heard anything recently, but if the Bears do cut him, let's go after that pass rushing specialist that we were supposed to go after last off season(Abraham and Freeney) but didn't except Peppers is even better.

Tampa Bay cuts former Chicago 1st round pick Gabe Carimi.

Carimi was widely rated ahead of Nate Solder in that draft. Too bad the Pats "reached." ;)

1980 was 34 years ago, unfortunately.

Roman Harper released.

Is he an upgrade over Gregory? I'm not familiar with his play at all. Pherein?

The issue with that is Ware is an one-gapping rusher. He had no other responsibility AFAIK.

This makes him a misfit as far as our defensive schemes.

Besides aren't we going to give Armstead a chance?

From what I understand, Armstead is an interior defensive lineman and not an end at the pro level.

I am a Rob Ninkovich fan but Ware would be a significant upgrade at the Leo LDE position.

I would think that at 6'5, Armstead is a little too tall to man the interior of the line, and may be best utilized on the outside.

Tommy Kelly is 6'6. Armstead is a DT but the real question is whether or not he can even play NFL football, to date he has never shown that he can. He uis a bubble player at best, when looking at getting better hoping a guy like him will be the answer isn't a strong proposition. And beefing up the DL is definitely one of the priorities this offseason.

Detriot cut Delmas and Burleson.

Interesting as both are at positions are possible positions of need for the pats

How about you look at what his % caught is without the throw aways by the QBs that get counted against him.. Or the ones batted at the line..

I would agree except for an extraordinary, most atypical for him, quote from Belichick. He called Kelly Wilfork and Armstead his "best three Defensive Tackles" who were lost to him.

The interior OL is just as old, and much inferior. I would argue the need is greater there.

Draft OL this draft, and DT next one.

Remember, BB has seen Armstead in pads and drills. We have not.

The team went 12-4 while playing these unheralded rookies without the big three. The DT rooks are no longer raw rooks after a season of being tossed in, sink or swim. I would expect a couple if not all three, of the big three will be back at full strength.
