Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

"With Brady out, Merriman out, other injuries, it's just not going to be the same."

But it still would be fun though wouldn't it? Mucho, mucho respect for your team for not only beating the Colts with your top three offensive players hurt, but also for coming here and giving the Patriots all they could handle.

I'll never knock your team.
"We don't throw at .260 hitters." Tek to Pay-Fraud before he smacked him across the face.
LOL .....OMGGGGGG.................. Pay-Fraud????????? good one........ one of the best siggys around..................... :singing:

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

just wondering if i should mock the charger fans now? just like they did after brady going down................. wait ............. no....... because pats fans have CLASS...........any way........ i hope he has a speedy recovery........... with him and brady gone and manning playing the way he did, AFC isnt that much of a FORCE anymore.................
every fanbase has ******s...even yours

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

I think he get's paid regardless, however, I'm not an expert on contracts. Who knows.......

I was really hoping for a regular season AFCCG rematch between the Pats/Chargers, both fully healthy and having a school yard brawl. With Brady out, Merriman out, other injuries, it's just not going to be the same.

Yes, he will get paid his contract (but not the incentives he could have made if he was healthy), but I've heard that he's now eligible for playoff checks and AFCC/SB rings if we make it that far.

its a bummer how many stars this league is losing to injury

I wonder what can be done to slow down all these terrible injuries. I just don't remember it being like this in the past. I mean, there were a few you never forgot (like the Theismann one) but it seems like there are several bad ones each year nowadays.

It's always been a mystery to me as to why more players don't wear knee braces, especially QB's; the knee would not bend to the side if one was on..........................

I didn't see the game but I heard SD's defense was like swiss cheese towards the end. Was Merriman playing? If so who knows if they'd have held on had he realized this was not a good idea from the start and that had someone at full strength in for him.

Yea thats a smart move to shut it down before he does some real damage to himself

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

"True football fans never want to see a player injured, especially someone such as Brady."

Well put, which explains why so many idiot fans where happy to see it, the majority of them aren't true FOOTBALL fans, as opposed to fans of whatever laundry they root for.
Oh great, Brady is hurt, now WE have a shot at the Super Bowl (because without him being hurt, your team had NO shot=Jets fans).

I remember quite a few years ago the Dolphins were loaded and they were playing the Browns in that sh!thole of a stadium they used to play in and Marino blew out his achilles tendon; POOF, the Dolphins season went down the toilet. And as a fan of the Patriots, my first reaction was that was bad for football and for Dan.

None of these sh!tstains who cheer an injury realize what the player has to do just to come back and play again; it's the guys career we're talking about, the reaction nationwide for the most part to Bradys injury was pathetic, made me embarassed to be a fan of the NFL to be frank.

"Every fan base (Chargers and Pats included) have idiot fans that would applaud and celebrate injuries to opposing teams. It's extremely unfortunate."

Yes, it is unfortunate to say the least. I wish the man a speedy recovery, pretty gutsy move to try to tough it out if you ask me. We're only into week one and players are dropping like flies, bad for the entire NFL IMO.

When Brady went down I was reminded of that season with Marino. A lot of people here hate the fins (they don't bug me too much) but I always liked Marino and was crushed to see him lost that year. He was just fun to watch. His numbers are even more amazing when you consider when he did it.

It also reminded me of when Bo Jackson went down, that was such a tragedy. When great players get injured, the whole league loses.

Chargers still have a lot of talent, I have Shaun Phillips on my dynasty league fantasy team and he is just a stud.

Most of the Charger fans I know were not only shocked to see Brady go down, but also upset (including myself). True football fans never want to see a player injured, especially someone such as Brady.

Every fan base (Chargers and Pats included) have idiot fans that would applaud and celebrate injuries to opposing teams. It's extremely unfortunate.

Yeah, it sucks, but that's the nature of the biz. Merriman should have never taken the field, but at least he's making the right call now. I wish him the best.

From what I can gather, Merriman made a valiant effort.

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

Yes, it will still be fun and one of the most anticipated games of the year. Bottom line, injuries happen, stars fall - it's football, it's always been that way and always will be.

Now it's time for some 2nd stringers to step up and earn their paychecks.

PS - I think you all will be fine with Cassell. Didn't show a lot in preseason, but he looked solid when it counted on gameday against the Squaws.

It will still be a good game.

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

i thought he was going to replaced by someone else anyway during the season...could it be he played one game just to gurantee his salary for this yr ?
He was going to be paid even if he had the surgery in February. He is signed through '09.

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

is this something to gurantee of salary if you play the first game ?
Nope, the Chargers wouldn't cut him if he had the surgery in Feb instead of now. He is signed through '09 and the Chargers certainly weren't going to cut him (with an injury settlement).

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

The guy is a moron. He should have made this decision months ago. He knew it was a problem during the offseason and didn't even have doctors look at it until a month ago and then wasted another month delaying the inevitable.
Many agree with you.

I think it sucks that Merriman is out for the year. I want to beat SD at their best!

I hope he comes back next year and is the same monster he was before. To wish ill will on somebody because of they have been blessed with amazing ability and don't play for your favorite team is absolutely insane.

It makes me proud to frequent this board and see so many people here who understand the basic concepts of decency.

That being said I hope we still whoop on the Chargers again!!!

Re: OT:Merriman out for the year

I'm relieved for his sake. It seemed like he was taking way, way too big a chance. Get the surgery ASAP and have a full year to rehab.
