Kansas City Chiefs mum on Dwayne Bowe's 'importing' comments - ESPN

I like the way the Chiefs are handling this. Nobody is talking to the media and Haley says he just wants to move on to the upcoming season. I won't be suprised to see Bowe dumped at some point during TC. He's already had a few incidents and has been a bust to date.

I don't see what the big deal is as this is a common theme among athletes or celebrities in general. I hope pats fans aren't shocked if they were to hear some Pats players doing the same thing.

Someone should ask former legendary players coach Herm Edwards wtf was happening on his watch...but since he's a mediot now they probably won't. I have a feeling Ty Law's cousin probably knew all about this too...

I read about this last week and it's not exactly surprising news but Mr. Bowe already has a bad rap with Haley and this isn't exactly going to earn him any extra points.

It really hadn't been the case with football players except on a few badboy teams like the Cowboys until fairly recently, as in the last decade, mostly because they are only away overnight 8 weeks a season and their wives be waitin' at home and their contracts aren't guaranteed. It's been the rule rather than the exception in the NBA for a long time and to a lesser extent in MLB because of the time spent on the road and the guaranteed contracts.

Teams can't stop a guy intent on behaving like a jackass on the road from doing whatever he wishes to, but they can punish or even cut him if it effects the team via his play or bad PR (see Roethlisberger, Ben). What happened here is more problematic because it's elevated to an organized pattern of behavior that put the entire team and the organization at risk.

That said, there should be a stupidity clause in these rookie contracts...it would save a lot of teams a bundle on braindead supposed talents like Bowe.

Dwane Bowe is most definitely NOT a bust

he had a great rookie season, and a subpar season the second time, maybe b/c of injuries, and last year he had a new coach and QB

but if released, i would LOVE to bring him in.....not taking into account off-field issues

I don't have a problem with what they were doing at all. As long is it was consensual then who am I to tell them who to sleep with and how to spend their money? It's more of a problem, IMO, that Bowe opened his mouth about it to the media. He should have known that this story was going to be a lightning rod and, because of it, he's provided a potentially huge distraction to the locker room. That's why I wouldn't be suprised to see the Chiefs cut him. He's not good enough for the headaches he's caused them.

He claims it was his rookie year which was 2007 and that was the year KC won in San Diego 30-17... Considering their record the last few years, they ought to try anything that gets them victories......
Though the married guys are the ones who will likely get the third degree......

2007 and San Diego? If Cromartie paid that floor a visit, there could be the possibility of another 30 or so paternity suits on the horizon.:)

It's not exactly smart practice to communicate this publicly even though we all know it happens.

The NFL really is full of kids who talk before thinking.

Sounds like Ty's cousin was Cruise Director for that particular trip.

What an unbelievably stupid thing to say. What possible good can happen to Dwayne Bowe for talking about this to a reporter? I don't care how good you are at a sport, I can't help but be dumbfounded by that kind of stupidity.

That said I don't think the Chiefs are going to cut or trade him, unless they get good value in return. He is a good player and if the only strike against him is he caused a minor media storm during the dog days of the offseason then it's hardly worth cutting bait.

sounds like there are more reasons in kc for playing than just to win the game.

Bowe hasn't been a bust to date.. He's been their best receiver despite all the QB issues they had prior to Cassel getting there. He was 5 yards short of 1000 yards as a rookie and broke 1000 yards as a sophomore.

Now, we don't know what "banned substance" Bowe was suspended for, but we know he was.. That's an issue.. But one that I would hope he's got worked out.

As for Bowe being traded, yep. Sure is a possibility. Though I'd have thought it would have happened at the draft before his stock took a hit..

I didn't see you mentioned he was a bust so I'll jump on you for that too :) but seriously he's been far from a bust considering all the coaching and quarterback changes.

"Bust" was a strong word, but he has been disappointing. His first couple of years were great, but now look to be under suspicion because of PED's. On top of that, he had a bad year with a better quarterback than he had in 2008, in an offense without Tony Gonzalez.

    Disable Jersey

He didn't get busted for an actual PED, according to sources. The dumbass supposedly got busted for a diuretic he was using prior to training camp because he showed up for OTAs between 20-30 lbs heavier than the team wanted him, and he was trying to make weight.

As for the Tony Gonzalez point, that's really part of why Bowe had a down year. He's a quality receiver, but he's in the Keyshawn mode, in that he doesn't get great separation and has to rely on his size and strength to make catches. Once Gonzalez was gone, teams could neutralize him much more easily by just rolling coverage. That's why Chris Chambers was such an important signing for that team. He's got enough speed that teams aren't able to focus on Bowe as much.

Unfortunately, for Chiefs fans, Bowe is a chucklehead, and that doesn't show any signs of changing in the near future. Couple that with his very mediocre hands, and you've got a receiver who could well end up on the trading block.

I agree with you on all fronts. The coverage of the Tiger Woods thing was absolutely ridiculous; people act like he's the first man in the history of the world to mess around on his wife. What he did had nothing to do with his sport, just like this situation doesn't either.

If the women were professionals, however, it'd be different. ;)

And you're right about the distraction thing, this is going to become a big headache for that team over the next few months. What did he think he had to gain by talking about it?
