To People who are complaining about Ebay , well starting next year , you wont find tickets on ebay anymore. If they do ,they will get sued by NFL Ticket Exchange service.

Looks like they are institutionalizing the Ticket Exchange service (provided by Ticketmaster).

Not a panacea certainly, and I expect that there will still be third party ticket resellers involved in selling NFL tickets.

Not sure how this will affect resale prices, if at all.

How did you read that article and not only get that there won't be any tickets on Ebay anymore but if there are they will be sued by NFL Ticketexchange? Did you flunk reading comprehension in HS? It mentions that nowhere.

This doesn't necessarily mean that tickets will be sold at face value right? I know that the Patriots don't sell for above face but I believe other teams do. Probably varies state by state based on scalping laws.

No one has to be nasty about it.

I think the word 'Official' won't mean much more than it does for the 'Official Sports Drink' of the NFL. But it is likely a good first step by the NFL if they intend eventually to deal with the problem of scalping. By putting into place an league-wide ticketing resale policy - AND a mechanism to implement it ... they are laying the groundwork to eventually take control of the scalping issue.

I haven't read the contract , but i am pretty sure 99.9% , by doing so ,they bought the exclusivity with it .

Ticketmaster can't even create a website that doesn't suck, you think their lawyers can match up against Ebay? Good luck!

How does that affect people who use the TicketExchange by being on the Waiting List. Do we just lose that benefit then?

BTW, other teams allow fans to sell their tickets on ticketexchange above face value. You should have seen some of the prices for the Pats game on the Doofins ticketexchange.

I have heard somewhere that this new thing is not mandatory for all teams, and that the Patriots could opt out and retain their current ticket exchange system. No idea of the details, and the details are important.

Remember that eBay owns StubHub, which is the major competitor to Ticketmaster, so if the NFL goes after tickets on eBay there might be antitrust implications. I can't remember right now how the Pats lawsuit against Stubhub ended up, that has a bearing.

The contract is between the NFL and Ticketmaster, how does that affect eBay?

As long as a wad of cash still gets me in the gate at Gillette, I don't care who I'm giving it to.

According to this logic, Coors can sue me if I drink Natty Light while watching an NFL game.... (it's the one beer to have when you're having more than one :D )

There's no way TicketMaster can sue eBay for providing a legal service and a place to resell tickets. A team like the Patriots may have a case because scalping is currently illegal in Massachusetts, but in most states it is illegal to say "our company can scalp NFL tickets but yours can't". That is a direct violation of anti-trust laws.

With all due respect, you can't buy exclusivity in this sort of case. If I have tickets and I want to scalp them (assuming I live in a place where scalping is legal) the NFL can't force me to use their service. In fact, most states that allow scalping also have laws that tell a team "If you are going to allow scalping of your tickets on your website, you can't punish people for doing the same thing on other websites."

Now, as a customer, I may be more inclined to use the NFL's official service because they guarantee the product (whereas on eBay you're just buying from strangers). But the NFL is not God. They can't force a scalper to use their site.

I emailed the Pats ticket dept and asked them if everyone will have access to their ticketexchange next year or just waiting list and season ticket holders like it is now.

I hope we don't lose this perk, its about all us wait listers have going for us.
