Perhaps BOTH SIDES wanted to ascertain what his market price is.

The handshake agreement then probably is ... that the Pats match his best bonafide offer.

Mike Lynch, who is pretty well connected because of Patriots All Access, said on his sports report tonight that if the Patriots offer is within $400-500,000 of what he is hearing on the open market, he would be inclined to re-sign here. That of course sounds like a guy who wants to test the market and negotiate with his preferred team from that basis. Of course it does leave the door open that if someone vastly overpays for his presence and leadership, he isn't going to just resign here anyway for old time sake. Part of the tradeoff for having employees accept the business end of the game rationally is accepting that works both ways.

[If you dont mind, if you respond could you include what Willies remaining years and acclerated sb is. I cannot access your page from work its blocked by the internet filter for some reason.

This is Willie's last year so there is no accelerated sb.

Thanks. I guess that answers all of the questions.

Lots a great posts on this topic. Lotta great insight and opinions. I, for one, would like to see Willie stay but wish him well whatever happens. I'll always remember him leveling Kurt Warner late in the SB fondly.... :rocker:
