They're showing the snow bowl game on NFLN with player/coach commentary. I can't get over what a crybaby Lincoln Kennedy is. He keeps talking about how deflated the Raiders got after the tuck play and then again after Vinatieri's tying field goal. He says, "I can't believe the NFL stole this game from us." Not a lot of mental toughness on that team if you ask me. Instead of going all wobbly they could have sucked it up and fought through the adversity. No doubt in my mind the better team won that night (and I was there ;)).

Agreed, but don't underestimate how difficult it is to overcome the demographics of the players on the opposing team.

Noted and corrected. :p (Ya gotta admit the weather that night was quite diverse, though.)

Good point, although someone must think he was significant enough to offer commentary (sour grapes).

If anything, the Pats got a break that night. You knew the game was over when Brady lost the football. Even though it's in the "rule book", it still doesn't stop people questioning the legitimacy of that play. Under those crappy conditions, the Raiders did everything they could to win that game. After that miracle call, it deflated the Raiders. I don't blame Lincoln Kennedy. However, It finally came back to haunt the Pats in the '08 super bowl. You could very well argue that the entire Giants O-line held the Pats pass rushers after Adalius Thomas grabbed a hold of Manning before his miracle scramble and pass to Tyree.

If you look at the replay, Woodson got away with hitting Brady on the helmet. It was the EXACT penalty that a Pats D player was called for doing on Manning late in the 2006 AFCCG.

Flashback 25 years prior to that game - the Pats had that playoff game against the Raiders wrapped up until the officials called a bogus roughing the passer call on a Pats D player.

    What comes around, goes around...

I'm sure we would have walked away fine.

Truthfully, I think we only picked it up in the second half of the four quarter and overtime, but the Raiders seemed to be pretty much in control most of that game. Let's not act like we dominated them from start to finish.

I don't remember that. I'd have to take a look if it ever comes on TV again.

I know Brady was making his 1st playoff start and prolly had the jitters, but Weis played it too conservatively for the first 2/3 of the game. When he started to open up the offense, that's when they started clicking. Gruden, OTOH, was aggressive from the get-go.

IF Weis had been more aggressive from the start, could it have been a double digit Pats win?

It's AWESOME to be on the winning side of a first class whine, such as Lincoln Kennedy's.

I love it when AL Davis and all those players of his start crying. I feel warm and tingly inside, kind of like I did on that super fine night in old Foxboro stadium. For those Patriot brothers & sisters that were there with me, you know exactly what I mean.

How do you figure the Pats got a break? You mean they are lucky the official followed the rules. Why do you put rule book in quotes? You don't think there are rules, or you think the game should be officiated without following the rules? Sorry, there are rules and the game is called according to them, not the way you or I or anyone else thinks should be the rules.

You Lincoln Kennedy and half the talking heads never figures out that it was a real rule. If you were a Pat fan pre-superbowl you would have seen it called against us vs the Jets. Vinny T was stripped but the Jets kept the ball because he hadn't tucked it. So we knew about the rule.

You cannot question the legitimacy of the call. You can question whether it should have been a rule or not, but last I heard the officials were required to call plays the way the rule book states, not the way fans think. Yoku should also know that the competition committee looked into the rule (or "rule" as Raider fans call it) and decided it was the right rule and didn't remove or even change it.

The only gripe would be if the official got the call wrong. He did, by the way. Should have been an automatic first down with a fifteen yard penalty for a blow to the head on the QB.

But then we never would have had the greatest kick in the history of the NFL, or had the pleasure of watching the Raiders spend the next 11 minutes of regulation and overtime unable to stop the Pats. If a team can't force a punt in 11 minutes of playing, they have no gripe coming.

The Raiders got their gift in 1976 with the Suger-Bear Hamilton faux "roughing the passer" penalty. I knew right away his arm was in forward motion and even though it looked like his intention was to pull it in he never got the opportunity.

The Patriots showed heart that night. The Raiders will crybaby about this for decades. AV's 2 FG's in that game are arguably the 2 best of All-Time.

... Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. ... well, except the the break thing.

The Giants WERE holding on many of the plays.

The reason why I put rule book in quotations because who knew that this rule even existed? There wasn't a precedent, that is why people still can't believe it to this day.

I was a fan then but I couldn't see the game because I didn't have direct tv then.

Officials interprets some rules differently then others. Had there been different officials that night, the game may have been called differently. In fact, even Phil Simms didn't bring up the "tuck rule" until after it was called. They were surprised that the Pats got the call in their favor.

    Fair enough.

Totally agree. The Patriot's philosophy during that playoff run was to minimize the mistakes the offense could make and put it in the hands of the defense. I think Weis and BB were justified in worrying that the game would get out of hand if they opened it up and Brady threw an early interception or two. By the time the Raiders opened up a ten point lead they threw caution to the wind and let Brady spread em out and carry the offense to victory. With those weather conditions and Brady's inexperience I understand why they played the game cautiously. That game was Brady's coming out party. Hey this guy is good lets let him win us some games.

Thats friggen ridiculous. Go look the play up. The call should have been "15 yard penalty, roughing the passer, hands to the helmet", not incomplete pass. The raiders got lucky there.
