Reading books is extremely important to Patrick Chung and the New England Patriots.
That’s why on Wednesday the Patriots safety paid a special visit to Mulcahey Elementary School to explain to nearly 400 elementary students the importance of reading every day.
“It’s very important for kids,” Chung said. “Kids today don’t get the opportunity to take advantage of what’s out there. They have to read ... make sure they help their brother and sister read. Going to school is just going to be harder. The more you read, the smarter you are, and the easier it gets.”
The kids welcomed Chung with rousing applause. The second-year player from Oregon then read a book “There’s No Place Like Space” by Dr. Seuss before concluding his reading with a “Let’s Go Patriots” children’s book.
Chung gave a “Let’s Go Patriots” book to the school’s library and presented signed copies to the students with the highest number of reading hours in the “Read Through the Stars” program.
Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty, who just completed one of the best seasons by a rookie in franchise history, will be a Speaker Series guest at The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
McCourty, a first-round pick in 2010, became just the fourth player in Patriots history to be selected to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He tied for second in the NFL with seven interceptions. Only Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Haynes had more interceptions as rookie in franchise history (8 in 1976).
Tickets for the Speaker Series event are $25 per person and the price includes admission to The Hall, a question and answer session with McCourty and an autograph opportunity. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking this link:museumtix
