Edelman's Games With Names - Ongoing Discussion (04.09 - Ty Law)

Loving it so far; haven't got to where they detail the 2001 SB against the rams, but Ernie has taken time to describe his philosophy, Edleman talks about his famous "Ernie Cards", and not for nothing - it almost sounds like Ernie has watched more football than Belichick lol (I doubt it, but Edleman revered Adams' knowledge of games. They talk about how Belichick said "we need like 5 different 2-point plays" for the SB against the Falcons (what a good call lmao), and more.

I have thought for some time now that Ernie was half of Bill's brain.

Ernie touches on something similar in that: they had a 40 year relationship that started in high-school and it shouldn't be underestimated how valuable that is when playing a game that requires you to make adjustments in minutes and you don't have to waste time getting on the same page - having that mind meld seemed to be a great tool.

It can explain Belichick's desire to work with guys he knows are going to be on the same page as him. It seems he highly valued having that around him not for comfortability, but because valued that quick-change advantage on gameday, for better or for worse (I've said 'for better or for worse' the past two times I've posted about Bill lmao).

28:30 minutes in; Julian is discussing how Ernie remembered a fake zero blitz that was run when an NFL DC was an assistant 25 years earlier when he was at the University of Pacific. This was a play run on a 2 pt conversion.

Not a coincidence that when the sh*t really hit the fan in NE was after Ernie retired
Uh-huh.

And Ernie relays how Belichick told him the week before the Atlanta Super Bowl -- uncharacteristically -- Belichick said they needed to have 5 2pt conversion plays ready for the game because he thought they'd need them.

So... clearly it was the two of them together.

I'm halfway through this. And so far it's great.

"Tom Brady didn't just drop out of the sky a hall of fame quarterback he made himself a hall of fame quarterback. And people at the draft would tell me they worked as hard as Brady you're full of **** you have no idea what you're talking about."
Must listen.

They where friends and fellow coaches. So much work into game planning, just amazing. Professors of football!

Nice. I’ve really enjoyed some of these. The Slater and Gronk ones were great. It was awesome to see how much Gronk still loathes the Colts.

I’ll be watching this one soon.

I loved how secretive his identity and role was. I remember him being described as Belichick’s Belichick. lol.

Just finished up.
You should definitely listen to this one.

Things that stood out from the second half which is where they get into SB36

He got a kick out of Ricky Prohl's a dynasty is born pronouncement.

He found Maddens take a knee comment kind of insulting like they were supposed to just bow down to the greatest show on turf.

He loved Bobby Hamiltons we shocked the world statement after. And said he was one of his favorite players.

Some excellent coverage of the actual game too so go listen lol.

So true about the Rams. They don’t play them in the regular season that year, they probably don’t win. Same could be said of the Giants in 07.

I thought the exact same thing. The Giants probably left that game thinking "we almost beat the best team in the history of the NFL. We can do this."

Also Ernie detailing the discussion with the groundskeeper on October 16th 2009 vs. the Titans after seeing the rolled-out with the molded bottom cleats is the kinda **** I live for.

Great, great interview. Credit to Jules for letting Ernie rip nonstop but pivoting at opportune times to keep it as enticing as possible.

A little more than an hour through it. Really good stuff. So interesting that he would spend an hour a day( or was it a week?) studying the Colts because they knew that’s who they would be facing. You can tell he relishes that 20-3 victory.

This was an amazing listen, pure Pat's porn.

Really highlights how everything accomplished during the dynasty was a team effort and all those Super Bowl wins were hard... even if they made it look easy.
