Crack open the Bud Light...Here we go!

17. JJ Watt DE Wisconsin In recent days he's pushed ahead of Kerrigan for my choice at this point.

28. It's hard for me to pass up on Sherrod here, as he might be my favorite OT in the draft, but I think this draft is OT-weak, and I don't think anybody here is especially likely to be better than LeVoir and Maneri right out of the box. I'm also optimistic about a Light signing, so instead Trade The Arizona Cardinals know that there will be a bidding war for a QB at 33, so they decide to beat the rush. The Patriots sign and trade Logan Mankins to the Cardinals, along with #28, Jonathan Wilhite, and Brandon Tate in exchange for #38, #166, Larry Fitzgerald, and Max Hall. The Patriots will also throw in their 2012 2nd round pick if they can sign Fitzgerald to an extension of three years or more.

33. We all know the trade's coming. The Pats trade #33 and #156 to the Titans in exchange for #39, #133, and 1 2012 second round pick.

38. Danny Watkins G/T Baylor Yeah, we need this kid now that we're down Mankins and Neal. Hopefully he can lock down one guard position, or possibly move to tackle if necessary, or be loaned to the Bruins for their playoff push.

39. Brooks Reed OLB Arizona In a perfect world, we'd get a bigger talent to fall to us, however, I don't mind double dipping...

60. Greg Romeus OLB Pittsburgh Still in my perfect world, an OLB depth chart of Cunningham, Reed, and Romeus would be a terrifying 3-headed monster that would resume the McGinest, Vrabel, & Colvin corps. In reality, hopefully Reed or Romeus can give us a bona fide 3-down defender on the edge.

74. Clint Boling G Georgia Double-dipping again. In case Watkins disappoints or is needed to play T, or Connolly is needed at C, Boling gives us another NFL-ready interior lineman to take snaps.

92. Delone Carter RB Syracuse You may notice that I've projected him to New England in all three of these exercises. I think he's the possibly the best all-around RB in the draft and is a steal down here.

115. Trade alert!!! New England trades #123 and #184 to move to #115. They select Kris O'Dowd C USC. It was nice having the solid continuity of Light-Mankins-Koppen-Neal-Kazcur all these years. Wouldn't the next generation of Vollmer-Watkins-O'Dowd-Boling-Maneri/RT to be named later be a fine group for another 3 Super Bowl titles? I mean, they're all going to pan out, right?

133. Greg McElroy QB Alabama Brian Hoyer will be a tradeable commodity sometime soon. Time to develop a new backup QB with intelligence and accuracy.

166. Shiloh Keo S Idaho Not really a need, but he looks to be the BPA by a healthy margin. He'll crack the game day roster week 1 as a ST dervish.

Comp pick. I'm projecting 1 comp pick, probably at the end of the 7th. I'll go with Alex Green RB Hawai'i. Seems to have some potential.

And, my customary 10 UDFAs:

Josh Thomas CB Buffalo
Dion Lewis RB Pittsburgh
Sealver Sliga DE Utah
Rob McGill OT Louisiana Tech
Rich Lapham OT Boston College
Marshall Williams WR Wake Forest
Andrew Jackson G Fresno St
Ryan Bartholomew C Syracuse
Kendrell Lockett LB Mississippi
Richard Sherman DB Stanford

So, to sum, the Patriots come out of the draft with:

WR Larry Fitzgerald
QB Max Hall
DE JJ Watt
G Danny Watkins
OLB Brooks Reed
OLB Greg Romeus
G Clint Boling
RB Delone Carter
C Kris O'Dowd
QB Greg McElroy
S Shiloh Keo
RB Alex Green
2012 2nd round pick from Tennessee

Crack open the Bud Light...Here we go!

39. Brooks Reed OLB Arizona In a perfect world, we'd get a bigger talent to fall to us, however, I don't mind double dipping...

[/b]

The more I learn about Reed the more I think we will draft him.
From nfldraftcountdown:
• Naturally athletic with fantastic agility and balance
• Quick with a burst and plays faster than he times
• Is a lot stronger and more powerful than you'd think
• A reliable tackler who can also pack quite a punch
• Plays with proper pad level and uses good leverage
• Absolutely relentless in pursuit and closes in a hurry
• Extremely active and aggressive with excellent range
• Terrific instincts and awareness with top football IQ
• Competitive and intense with an unparalleled motor
• Showcases a varied repertoire of pass rush moves
• Versatile and can play multiple positions / schemes
• Is a respected leader with an outstanding work ethic
• Was productive with a lot of high-quality experience

Leadership? check
Tackling? check
Competitive? check
Football IQ? check

Weaknesses:
• Does not have the ideal height or bulk you look for
• Can get engulfed and will struggle to get off blocks
• Average run defender and not stout at point of attack
• Ability to play in space and coverage is still unknown
• Classic 'tweener and may not have a true pro position
• might have some relatively minor durability concerns

He's 6.2 1/2 which is about Cunningham's size (6"3 260)
He ran a 4.68 40 is good
Technique can fix his issues against the run

OK, straight up but I'm working on a trade or 2, if the other teams wll return my call.

#17 Aldon smith, OLB, MO
#28, Justin Houston, OLB, GA- Just in case
#33 Ben Ijalala, OT/G Vill
#60 Daniel Thomas, RB KSU
#74 Ras I Dowling, CB, Va
#90 Will Rackey, G, Le-high:cool:
#128 Pat Devlin, QB, Del
#156 Brandon Fusco, C, Slippery Rock (I picked him then noticed that Box did also. He could change his screen name to Slippery Rocks if the Patriots pick Fusco.);)
#186 Edmund Gates, WR, Abline Christian. Not Draftscouts list but on Nolan Nawrocki's watch list.

Reed is 7/8 of an inch shorter and has 1 1/2 inch shorter arms compared to Cunningham That's not going to cut it as a top 60 pick.

I often think that you were on the 49ers staff back in the day you would have passed on Jerry Rice because of his slow 40 time.

That's a horrendous example

2012 2nd Round Pick
2012 3rd Round Pick

Which means the Pats are going to pass on him, another 3-4 team is going to draft him, he's going to get tons of sacks, and everybody is going to complain.

His combine numbers are pretty similar to those of Clay Matthews yet he's 23lbs heavier, do you still think he won't go in the top 60? Although Matthews isn't my cup of tea I think plenty of teams would give up a top 60 pick to get a hold of someone like him.

2012 2nd Round Pick
2012 3rd Round Pick

Very strong draft. I've been on the Jarvis Jenkins bandwagon since day 1 and demand you switch Casey with him.;) Other than that, great job.

Gilchrist had a very solid combine by the way. Very flexible player that has the ability to play cb and safety.

Crack open the Bud Light...Here we go!

Don't mind if I do... cheers.

17,28,33,60,74,92,123,156,&184

17 - Gabe Carimi, T, Wisonsin - meet your RT for the next 10 years
27 - TRADE - to someone for a #1 in 2012 plus a 4th the team takes Jake Locker
33 - Muhammad Wilkerson, Temple, RDE - versatile, can play end or tackle in four man fronts
60 - Jon Baldwin WR Pittsburgh - Add outside presence and red zone threat
73 - Ras-I Dowling, CB - adds to a secondary that all of a sudden is pretty good, could play safety in a pinch
92 - James Carpenter OT Alabama - would kick inside, adds more youth and depth to the line
123 - Greg Romeus, DE, Pittsburgh - what the heck
147 (from earlier trade) - Ricky Elmore DE Arizona - crank up the competition at OLB
156 - Greg McElroy QB Alabama - boring I know..
184 - David Carter DT UCLA - more depth for the d line, bye bye Stroud, we hardly knew ye

Free Agent
Alex Green RB Hawaii

All this and two first round picks next year, pretty good two year haul for the Patriots.

I don't think he's worth a top 60 pick for the Pats' scheme. No reason he can't put up 10 sacks in a scheme like GB's though. Heck, I could see the Pats trading out of 28 so a team can get Reed:eek:

Trades
28+92 for 23
33 for 72, 88 and NO 2012 #2
60 for 64 and 160
74 for 82 and 146
123 and 160 for 112

No Light, No Mankins, Go after a OLB in FA

17 DE Watt--Best 5 technique in draft
23 OT Carimi--RT moving Vollmer to left
64 OLB Carter--luxury pick, ST demon
72 RB Murray--4.37!!
82 G Boling--solid G
88 Traded for a 2012 #2
112 RB Carter ...DH recommend
146 G Moffitt .....more Wisconsin guys
156 CB Burney....a little greedy here
184 QB McElroy...sleeper??

Lower picks a bit off....but reasonable.
We get all these guys and still end up with 2 more #2s in 2012.
OL of Vollmer, Connolly, Koppen, Kaczur, and Carimi with 2 new solid backups.

Reed is 7/8 of an inch shorter and has 1 1/2 inch shorter arms compared to Cunningham That's not going to cut it as a top 60 pick.

Reed's elite (1.54) 10-yd split will though. He was quicker than AJ Green, Jerrel Jernigan, Von Miller, Robert Quinn and Randall Cobb. His 10-yd split is, dare I say, Clay Matthews like!! The more I read about this kid the more I like him.

Exactly, he's a Clay Matthews type. The other 3-4 teams will drool over him while we pick up a bigger guy who plays the run better.
