By April, we will be giving more serious attention for Reed at 33.

2012 2nd round pick from Tennessee
Very strong draft. I've been on the Jarvis Jenkins bandwagon since day 1 and demand you switch Casey with him. Other than that, great job.
Gilchrist had a very solid combine by the way. Very flexible player that has the ability to play cb and safety.
Ty Warren wasn't much of a pass rusher, then burst out about his third season after really buying into the offseason program slimming down a little and getting more explosive off the snap, Jenkins can be that kind of good once Nash & Pepper find all his motivational buttons and help get him pointed in the right direction. As he is now, I have him with a second round grade, and having watched both DL this past season I have Jenkins in my draft above. Thanks, Pats Missile. I could easily be persuaded off of Casey. I need to do more homework on the mid-tier DEs & DTs.
Here's some morning coffee internet scouting:
This report says Casey's more of a one gapper. Excellent in pass rush, not so good in run defense. He might be able to play a role as a pass rushing specialist in our D-line rotation.
Draft Breakdown — Tale of the Tape: USC DT Jurrell Casey
According to this report Jarvis Jenkins is a 2-down run stuffer who is SATPOA. (Stout At The Point Of Attack)- I'm hoping this acronym catches on. He's 6'4" 305-320 and can play NT or DE. I'd be interested if he's an upgrade at the nose compared to Warren, Brace or Love. He'd doesn't offer much in terms of pass rush so not a 3 down player.
Sideline Scouting - Jarvis Jenkins Scouting Report
He definitely shined at the combine.
17,28,33,60,74,92,123,156,&184
17+28 = 1610
12+44 = 1660
12 = Robert Quinn, DE, NC
33 and 92 to move up to 26
26 = Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
44= Danny Watkins, G, Baylor
60 = DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma
74 = Mark Herzlich, OLB, Boston College
123 = Owen Marecic, FB/TE/LB, Stanford
156 = Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama
184 = Ryan Whalen, WR, Stanford.
My reasoning:
Quinn is going to be a monster at NFL level.
Carimi opposite Vollmer (If we sign Light, then Carimi doesn't get forced to start)
Watkins can start opposite Connolly. If we re-sign Mankins, then he competes with Connolly for the start.
Murray can catch the ball, run the ball and fits nicely into our backfield. If he's gone, I take Todman.
Herzlich could make an inspirational speech each week that would have 45 players kicking the door down to play. And he's still got to get healthy from the cancer.
Marecic fills a need.
McElroy can compete with Hoyer and maybe get on the Practice Squad.
Whalen is a developmental prospect. I think he can be an NFL receiver.
This draft fills the needs and brings in 3-4 possible starters at the opening of the draft as well as Marecic.
Trade 17+74 = 1170 for 25+37 = 1250 (I think that's close enough)
Trade 33 = 580 for 46+89 =585
Trade 184 = 18.8 for 202+224 = 15.6
25. Mike Pouncey OG
28. Justin Houston OLB

"Close enough" means you are being greedy.
It depends on the situation.
If a team is desperate enough to trade up, it will. If there's a bidding war, as it were, it might have to.
Trades
Trade 17 (950) to Philadelphia for 23 (760) and 85 (165)
Trade 28 (660) to San Francisco for 45 (450) and 76 (210)

Watt needs to improve his technique and get stronger.Point well taken on Jenkins, Box.
What's your take on JJ Watt? I'm concerned that he will not be SATPOA as a 2 gap 3-4 DE.
I think Mark Herzlich lasts until 7th round and we trade a 2012 6th to take him
Exactly, he's a Clay Matthews type. The other 3-4 teams will drool over him while we pick up a bigger guy who plays the run better.
WOW, lots of mistakes here, where to start. OK, first you are figuring that Quinn drops out of the top 10, no one sees this happening. Your first trade would have to include pick #123 as well as you are 50 pts short. Your second trade you swapped for #26 where Carimi has #23 value so there goes # 156 and #184(50 pts short again). Getting Quinn, Carimi, Watkins and Murray... very decent but no future picks.
I don't know anything about Casey but I would be thrilled if the draft fell like that!
At least one will be drafted by the Pats...
17. DL JJ Watt
28. DL Muhammad Wilkerson
33. OLB Brooks Reed
60. S Quinton Carter
74. OL Benjamin Ijalana
92. RB Shane Vereen
123. WR Denarius Moore
156. OC Brandon Fusco
184. CB Justin Rogers
Not that this is going to happen, but I am a little giddy over a possible future o-line of:
Vollmer Ijalana Moffitt Boling Carimi
