Why isnt Jarvis playing DE in place of Ty Warren?
he must be stouter than Mike Wright, no?

then you could have wright or lekevin place NT.

seems like other teams have targeted M Wright and run right as much as poss, away from Seymour.

Re: DL backups - I dont get it

In my opinion, they prefer to keep Green at his normal rotational position. Thus, Wright takes Warren's spot so that Green keeps his own. If Green took Warren's spot, then Wright would have to take Green's spot. So it's easier to make one change than two.

i get that. but Jarvis backs up Seymour, and BB seems to like that.
why cant Jarvis back up Ty Warren as well?

Re: DL backups - I dont get it

Well, I don't think Green exclusively backs up Seymour. I think he plays all over the line, and a lot on 3rd down. I see his position not as "backup RE", but more like both "backup DL" and "3rd down DL".

Re: DL backups - I dont get it

Green thrid down pass rush why do you want him to play when wright is not known for his pass rush weaking 2 position.

Re: DL backups - I dont get it

Didn't Green injure a shoulder early in the season? Maybe her's better off rushing from one side than the other. Others have commented that Wright did better filling in at the nose than LDE. (Res. guard playing center) L.Smith seemed to hold up OK at LDE.

I've got to imagine its like ILB vs. OLB or S vs. CB. The great ones can play both, and the players look the same physically, but they are mentally different positions. I suppose the backups we have are not "the great ones" and only know how to play one position effectively.

i actually thought lekevin smith did a good job. i mean, he was held blatantly at least 2 times, so he was getting pressure on wallace. maybe he will be a diamond in the rough

Jarvis Green is a very good pass-rusher. He does not play the run all that well. If he were a more well-rounded player, I'm sure BB would have him in there. This isn't rocket science.

Exactly. Green is an excellent pass rusher and Wright a very good run stopper.

Playing each in the appropriate situation is good football.

What happens that the OP doesn't understand is that a team can go no huddle and force you to keep players in on defense that aren't the best matchup.

As some people touched on green is a pass rush specialist that's why on third and long Sey comes off and Green goes on the field (the reason for Sey's complaint to WEEI the other week).

You put Wright in because he is our next best all around DL, its also why he slide to NT since he backups primarily Wilfork there and why LeKevin came in....who BTW did a great job.

yea Green great pass rusher no sacks no quarterback hits one qb pressure.this years stats.
Doing a great job.
