There could have been 6 Pats there and he would have still thrown it. It was pretty clear on that play that Sanchez went with his pre-snap read and thought that the play action would have held up the LB. Unfortunately, it was 2nd and goal from the 8 or 9 and they just ran the ball on first down. Everyone and their brother knew they were throwing the ball.
It was such an ill conceived play call, thought and throw. If the Jets hope to keep it close, they can't try minor league plays like that. Spikes is a rookie and didn't buy it for a second. Neither did the two other defenders.
Recently, there have been two different versions of Sanchez. One, the happy foot 2nd year player, who gets antsy and nervous and rushes to make plays, and the more calm one who the game slowed down a bit for, and can be patient enough to stay in the pocket and find the open receiver. Against Indy, the first half was the Panicky Sanchez, the second half, a bit better. Against Pitt and Chi, Sanchez was very composed.
Part of it is how they manage him. JMO, but throwing the ball more on first down gives him the best chance to succeed as its the easiest down to throw the ball (that goes for every QB). Someone mentioned earlier in this thread - first downs will be key. If Sanchez is in 2nd and 9/10 quite often, he's in big trouble. In contrast, if there are a lot of 2nd and 5/6, thats a lot of pressure off of Sanchez.
