Defending against the NYJ Offense

i think keller is more dangerous than edwards. if sanchez is throwing deep or to the sidelines consistently its better than right up the middle to keller.

I agree. Force the inaccurate QB to throw outside as much as possible in the cold and windy conditions.

Re: Defending the NYJ Offense

The Jets will probably try to spread it out getting us into our sub-package. Their best chance to win is running the ball. But, they need to have us in sub to do it effectively. The Jets can run on passing downs or even non passing downs out of one back, so they will need early success throwing the ball to get us into sub packages to try to shorten the game with the run.

Must win first down. Whether it's a run or a pass. you can't spend the night in 2nd and 5. It really opens up the playbook for them. Win first down and take away the check down in the passing game and you increase your chances.

I agree with this, I don't expect a lot of tricks. Similar to what Matt Bowen from NFP said.
Breaking down the AFC Divisional Playoffs | National Football Post

They will line-up in a 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB set and see if the Patriots can stop the run and take the short high percentage passes. If Safeties creep up then they will take a few deep shots to Holmes or Edwards.

The best defense will be if the Patriots offense can score some points earlier. The game plan goes out the door if the Patriots get a 14 point lead.

IMO Chung is one of the keys to the game, in a 3WR set he would be either in the slot or lined up against Keller.

I know this is the playoffs but, do you really think the offense that scored 0 points in Gillette just 4 weeks ago has improved that much?

I think the Patriots will concern themselves morewith shutting down the inside lanes when they hit the RZ - remember that Spikes pick?

There were 3 other Patriots in a better position than the Jets WR to catch that ball - when space gets limited Sanchez will panic.

There could have been 6 Pats there and he would have still thrown it. It was pretty clear on that play that Sanchez went with his pre-snap read and thought that the play action would have held up the LB. Unfortunately, it was 2nd and goal from the 8 or 9 and they just ran the ball on first down. Everyone and their brother knew they were throwing the ball.

It was such an ill conceived play call, thought and throw. If the Jets hope to keep it close, they can't try minor league plays like that. Spikes is a rookie and didn't buy it for a second. Neither did the two other defenders.

Recently, there have been two different versions of Sanchez. One, the happy foot 2nd year player, who gets antsy and nervous and rushes to make plays, and the more calm one who the game slowed down a bit for, and can be patient enough to stay in the pocket and find the open receiver. Against Indy, the first half was the Panicky Sanchez, the second half, a bit better. Against Pitt and Chi, Sanchez was very composed.

Part of it is how they manage him. JMO, but throwing the ball more on first down gives him the best chance to succeed as its the easiest down to throw the ball (that goes for every QB). Someone mentioned earlier in this thread - first downs will be key. If Sanchez is in 2nd and 9/10 quite often, he's in big trouble. In contrast, if there are a lot of 2nd and 5/6, thats a lot of pressure off of Sanchez.

Re: Defending the NYJ Offense

Stack the box and force the midget QB to win the game

Really? A "midget" referrence from a fan of the team collecting as many 5'7" white kids as they can possibly get?

You betcha!

Dude, go back to the Inside

+1. First down is key for the Jets offense to be sucessful. They must use high percentage passes on first down to set up 2nd and medium/short. Schotty always decides to run on 1st down and every team knows it. Obvioulsly not pass everytime, but atleast mix it up a bit. It will be a long day for the offense if Sanchez is put into many 2nd/3rd and longs
