Nope, I'm not making it up. Reiss wrote it so don't just junk it.

If B.J. Raji is sitting there @ 23, we'll grab him..

I won't just junk, but I'm skeptical that we would go CB in the 1st round, much as I like Butler. I think there were plenty of prospects at Connecticut's pro day to warrant a visit from BB. Didn't he attend Brown's pro day in 2007, prompting rumors that we were sure to take Zak DeOssie? I see William Beatty or even Donald Brown as being more likely picks for the Pats right now. Not that Butler isn't a great prospect.

The idea of Raji slipping out of the first round boggles my mind. God, I hope he slips to 23. Raji and Barwin would be too good to possibly happen.

Well, we know that he was intrigued by something/someone he saw at UConn's Pro Day. But that's about all we know for sure. [Maybe he saw some new positional drills he can incorporate into Patriots practices or something.]

At 23? I sure hope not. That would be disappointing to me if they took a corner that early. We just drafted 2 cbs last season that aren't even fully developed and we brought in Bodden and Springs. Again, I would be disappointed if that happens with 23. I wouldn't mind so much at 34 though.

They might go Butler #23 and Raji at #34... who knows ? To be honest, I am not sure how much a positive test affects draft position. Calvin Johnson had a positive... don't see anyone saying he wasn'T worth it (though it was the 59th WR the Lions tried, so I guess they had to be right once !).

Raji at 23 would be awesome. In a heartbeat I would trade up to 17 to get him even after everything that has gone down with him.

Raji at 23 and Barwin at 34 (or trade up to 26 using #89 and #34 if necessary) would be the best Pats draft ever. Two top 10 talents on defense at reasonable money. Get a safety and go BPA or trade the other pick into 2010.

The problem with Raji is that its come out that, not only did he test positive at the combine, but he also tested positive while playing for BC. I'm not sure the Patriots would tolerate that..

    Faulk that!

Seriously, if he becomes a realistic suspension risk, you've got to be nervous.

Hell let's get Butler at 23, Raji at 34 and Barwin at 58! :singing::singing:

Now let's pass the Raji-Express and take a deep breathe of fresh air! ;)

If we can get Raji and 34 and Barwin at 58 then I'll give you Butler at 34. But who do we take at 47? :D I know it's being greedy, but we got Tom Brady at 199, after all.

Realistically, again, I don't see a 1st day CB. And I only see Raji as even a remote possibility if he falls past Denver at 12. 23 + 58 gets us to around the 14 range, and New Orleans is desperate to get back into the 2nd round. 23 + 89 gets us to around #18, but Denver would be in the mix for a DT if he were still available, so I could only see them trading if he really fell off their board.

From what I understand Butler is a soft tackler and does not like contact. If that is true he would hardly be a guy BB would be interested in.

I believe that Raji's issues at BC were academic. I wouldn't place too much stock in the thought that he will fall all that far because of pot. I think that he is going to be a fantastic player in the NFL. He seems to be similar to Wilfork in that he will succeed as a nose in the 34 or as a 3 tech in an upfield 43. I don't think there's anyway he lasts past GB at 9 or Denver at 12. Would love to see him on the Pats, though.

I think that out of the 1st round/early 2nd round corners, Butler is likely the best fit. That said, when I look at him play, he seems to be a clone of Terrence Wheatley. Given the Pats current DB situation, I don't think that it's likely he will be taken. This is of course factoring in the fact that I deny the viability of any pick other than Barwin at 23.

I bet he is on the short list. I just don't see them using 23 on him. With Springs and Bodden signed, they need to get qb pressure. It was non-existent last year, leaving corners on routes longer-breakdowns. I have know problem with another good young ball hawk. I see a Macho Harris, or a Sherrod Martin selected in 3-4 area.Of course-if Butler is available at 34 they will have to consider him.

I think that Raji would be a great three tech but an even better Nose in a zero or one tech in a 4-3. I just think that where he is 330lbs and at his height I would plug him into a 4-3 nose right away and watch him dominate. He looks to have a great motor and demands two OL on every play but do realize that his one on one with many guards in a three tech is also a good way to go with him. If a team say the Saints pick him up at 14 to pair inside with Ells would make an immediate impact for their team on defense for many years.

I agree that Butler is not the way to go in the first as we picked up two young corners in last years draft. The more I look at our roster and the amount of picks I really think BB is going to do some wheeling and dealing and pick alot of BPA on his board this draft.
