I don't remember much animosity between Sox and Pats fans over the years...I don't mind a baseball thread being here, but it crosses the line when Pats fans have to be subjected to criticism from Sox fans because we might want them in the Red Sox forum where they belong. I also take exception to the Sox fan who decided to take a poke at the Pats' recent success as being less worthy than the Sox.
As for the comparisons to 2004, let me put that into perspective also. At the time in 2004 when the Pats were setting the record for most consecutive wins in the NFL (still standing) what was the talk in the media? Let me tell you. It was "Will A-Rod be coming to Boston." Pardon me if I now don't want to do cartwheels on a Pats message board about the Red Sox.
I'm happy for all of my Red Sox fan friends but I don't think that this is the place for that celebration, especially if it entails knocking down the Pats or their fans.
I think there's something to be said for Alex Cora's leadership. He never seemed to get worked up about anything. I think that kind of quiet cool works well with baseball players.
Outstanding team chemistry started from the top this season.This. I think a lot of Sox fans checked out, but not this team.
This is a joke.
Murderers' Row:The '27 Yankees were 110-44 in the regular season and sept the WS 4-0, final rec 114-44
The '18 Red Sox were 108-54 in the regular season and won the WS 4-1, final rec 119-57
So they aren't the '27 Yankees but they are not that far off.
Come on
I know we're partial to Dave, for good reason, around here, but he is a good manager, as Cora said.I’m a Dodgers fan and that was a tough blow. Roberts was the Red Sox MVP. Pulling Rich Hill in game 4 when he had the Red Sox on the ropes was unbelievable. Apparently, there was a lot boos when he walked out to take out Hill. LA times trashed Roberts after that debacle.
Also couldn’t believe how many f***ing times the Sox scored with two outs. Dodgers has their chances but choked. Don’t even get me started on Kershaw.
No way. Even if a Dodger's manager made all the right moves, the Dodgers do not beat the Red Sox. If Pierce isn't the MVP, then it's Price.I’m a Dodgers fan and that was a tough blow. Maybe, but she'll be boring as hell.I don't know, but his daughter is going to be pretty, pretttttty, prettaaayyyy cute when she gets older.
I'm always amazed at how early managers take out pitchers who are having success. The Hill example was one of those. I think it all stems from the way pitchers are not allowed to stay in games as long now. It's very hard to imagine a pitcher going 14 innings now like Ruth did in the early days.
Yeah, that was a real head scratcher. I read somewhere that when Roberts went out to the mound he only wanted to talk to Hill, but Hill thought he was out (as Roberts never came out just to talk to him) so Hill handed him the ball and left the mound and Roberts didn't say anything. Say what now?! It's the friggin World Series! Oh and thanks for Madsen!I’m a Dodgers fan and that was a tough blow. Roberts was the Red Sox MVP. Not to Joe Montana it isn't (to everyone else, well...)Is this sarcasm? It should be.
He did - when he saw Roberts out there, he gave him the ball because Roberts always took him out when he came to the mound in the past. Roberts said that was not his intention, but when Hill gave him the ball, that settled it. Bad communication?I heard scuttlebutt that Hill offered the ball to Roberts without being asked. I would think that he was saying he knew he was done?
The 04 series with the Yankees was the most emotionally draining ('86 too but in a different way) professional sports series i've watched. Not trying to be a, "I was there guy" but I was at G3, 4 and 5 and was just wiped out after that series. Late nights. Emotional highs...crazy.
SoftieFatigued shoulder.
I'm thinking of taking a sedative before kickoff in Atlanta.I only wish I could be that comfortable during the Patriots next Super Bowl game.
He avoided going Hitless In HollywoodEDIT: Oh, and congrats to Mookie for finally contributing something in the World Series. He saved his best for last.
And the Red Sox were sub .500 for 3 of the last seven seasons with a few last place finishes in there. "I'll take the Patriots consistency for $2000 Alex......." ( other Alex, not Cora)I'll take the Pats 5 SB wins and 8 AFC titles in 17 years (with a salary cap) over the Sox 4 WS wins and 4 AL titles in 15 years (without a salary cap) any time. Patsfans.com is a very bad place to make such a cherry-picked statement.
Batting against garbage pitching. Yankees were like the Harlem globetrotters back then. Playing against zero competition.Murderers' Row:
