    :) :)

Instead of another Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady discussion lets try something new.

It appears that one position where both the Patriots and the Colts have pretty much ignored getting a quality player is Punter.

I guess both TD and BB figure this is a position worth ignoring. In fact the one of the few stats where the Colts and Pats trail is total punting yards. The New England Patriots are dead last 1,138 yards net, with the Colts in second to last place only punting for 1,379 yards net.

In part this is because attempts are relatively infrequent. The Colts have punted the third least amount of times 42 and the Patriots have done it the least at 32 times.

But that doesn't tell the whole story, the average punt of Chris Hanson is a mere 39.8 yards Hunter Smith does slightly better at 41.2 yards, but neither comes close to the monster punter Andy Lee who avgs 48.4. Lee aided by th most punts in the league (85) has put up a whopping 4,114 yards total and 3,620 net blowing away his nearest rival Dustin Colquitt with 3,437 & 2,976 respectively.

Although Smith edges out Hanson at the bottom of the heap on avg total yards per punt, Hanson slightly edges out Smith in avg net yards per punt 32.8 vs 35.6, but once again neither is any where near the punting phenomena Lee at 42.6.

As exciting and interesting a debate regarding Hanson and Smith would be, the bottom line is they both suck royally. Shame on both TD and BB for ignoring this position. But give Hanson's absolute suckiness one can understand why BB goes for it on 4 and short so often.

Hopefully both coaches will wise up and use their first round draft pick to get a better quality punter, this is shameful.

    :) :)

We should bring in Cassel to throw a long interception on 4th downs.

    The Fins would catch it!

A first round pick on a punter? As Rick Petino might say.......Ray Guy isn't walking through that door!

Unfortunately the dolphins own the #1 overall draft pick this year so they will beat us to it! I guess we'll just have to settle for McFadden... :)

I am kind of shocked that BB has not tried to "try out" a few other punters....because Hanson is WORSE than Ken Walters.....and I didn't think that would ever be possible.......If Hanson shanks another 14 yarder.....he may not make it our of the stadium alive!!!

I think BB just decided to forgo the whole concept of punting. He just keep Hanson around to motivate Tom. If you don't score a TD or at least get us in FG range, I have to send him in.

    #3 Jersey

Heck, I'd really like to know what the hell Danny Baugher did to get himself fired. I can't imagine what exactly convinced the Pats to pay Hanson more for less talent (even if he was, somehow, a Pro Bowler). . . .

I think these stats are more meaningful:
    Code:
Name	Punts	FC	Ret	[B]Ret %[/B]	Net	TD
    Hanson	32	7	9	[B]28.1[/B]	35.6	0
    Smith	42	10	15	[B]35.7[/B]	32.8	1
    Lee	85	13	42	[B]49.4[/B]	42.6	0
    Lechler	58	9	32	[B]55.2[/B]	42.6	1
Lee is having a very good season, as is Lechler, but notice how often they outkick their coverage. Hunter Smith has more fair catches than Shane Lechler on 16 less punts! And an Andy Lee punt is almost twice as likely to be returnable as a Chris Hanson punt.

I think we've all watched BB and Seely for long enough to know what really irks them in the punting game.

I don't get those stats. There are fair catches, returns, touchbacks, and what else? I'm missing a fourth category.

    No Jersey Selected

Remember that high snap leading to a safety against Indy in the 2003 AFCCG?

    That was awesome.

The stats are, from left to right:
Fair catches, returns, returns as a percentage of punts, net yardage (the only yardage that matters), and TD returns surrendered.
