Nice article. Could be important as a stop gap and more, or not.

Meet Patriots defensive tackle Casey Walker, a big fish in the big New England pond | masslive.com

The bio on Casey Walker says 340 because Walker was indeed once 340, just before the beginning of his rookie season in Carolina. When he was signed to the Panthers practice squad as an undrafted free agent, bloodwork revealed a thyroid condition that had caused Walker, who played between 310-315 at the University of Oklahoma, to balloon to 340.

“Now I have to take a pill every morning to get my metabolism back on,” Walker explained, “because my metabolism had cut off and I was just gaining weight, gaining weight, gaining weight.”

The other half of Walker’s plan: No meat, pork or chicken. A pescatarian diet.

“I had Chinese food last night,” Walker said, “but I had shrimp-fried rice.”

You probably recognize the slimmed-down Walker from his highlight play Sunday night: As Cincinnati, in an obvious moment of confusion, scrambled to call a play and avoid the delay of game, Walker shot through the A-gap unblocked, devoured the 238-pound Jeremy Hill, and sent him flying to the Gillette turf. First career tackle.
