Brian Urlacher wants new contract or a trade

ESPN 1000 in Chicago predicted the Pats trade draft pick(s) for Urlacher...and that the Bears would be picking 7th overall.

If we had multiple picks in the top ten this season we could acquire every malcontent in the league and sign them to deals that would require us to trade Brady and Wilfork because we can't afford to extend them...

Not to say he's a bum but Erlacher has benefitted from being surrounded by some very good talent on D. He struggled when Rosie left (which happened in part because they couldn't both have big deals), then got hurt, then re-emerged as Briggs emerged, and Briggs almost had to leave over contract issues too, and lately he's struggled again. He turns 30 next month and has an arthritis issue in his back. Having signed a nine year extension in 2003 that averaged $6M+ per he's now in the salary only years of that deal ($23M between 2008-2011). What he wants is bonus or up front money because he's likely as concerned about his back holding up over the next 3-4 years as the Bears apparently are or they would likely give him what he wants since he's an icon in the windy city. If they aren't willing to redo his deal for more than 1 year, buyer beware.

Urlacher, even at his best, was very, very good at some things but had some weaknesses. He's never been the best linebacker in the game.

Now, with completely unpredictable injuries, he's a risk for any team he's on. He could provide some great play for a year or two, or he could be a complete waist of salary cap and practice time.

Wishfull thinking on the part of Bears Fans. Won't happen. Bill loves those old Defensive guys, but Urlacher for no.7??? That's just nuts.

didn't he have a herniated disc? once those problems start to emerge it doesn't forebode well

Didn't Colvin have a horrible injury to his hip area?

Seemed like he came back from that pretty strong Eh?

Look at Robert Edwards as well when he got hurt and had a horrific injury,Now he is supposedly is cranking it up good in Canada.

Not when we signed him. And he was never the same player which is why he isn't here any more. Took him two seasons to come back to about 80% of what we hoped for.

Robert Edwards couldn't make it in the NFL post injury. Lots of guys in the CFL can't...

Urlacher wants to be paid as you percieve him. If he was looking for a trade to a prove it deal with an option because all he really ever wanted was a ring, then i'd be a different story. He just wants his money and he wants another chunk of it up front. That probably means he's got as many concerns about his future as he turns 30 as da Bears do. You don't trade #7 for that. He's got 4 years and $23M left on his 2003 deal - not a problem for da Bears except he likely wants half of that up front again - and that apparently is a problem. He's afraid he'll only see his $4-5M seasons and not the $6-7M ones because all that's left is salary and it ain't guaranteed. He doesn't want to face the take a cut or be cut years at 32 with back issues. If we traded for him he would want a new 5 year deal for AD money. You can't have a top 5 contract player at every position or you become the 'Skins. Or worse because we don't have the revenue stream Snyder has to keep working around mistakes by making new ones.

Colvin has been good but never lived up to great expectations.

a player picked at #7 in the prime of his career locked up for several years versus a player on the downside I would take #7.
