Bedard - Pats NOT IN on lamar Jackson....

was trying to find your post in the thread advocating for the signing of Lamar Jackson... couldn't seem to find it

If you wanna play the "Told ya so game" make sure you actually, you know, told someone
There are receipts. I was just talking about this thread though.

Thanks for this. I wasn't here from after the SB to end of August. Another golden thread full of the usual IBWT hot takes. Those bozos were sure wrong a lot. Wrong about Mac. Wrong about Lamar. Wrong about Belichick.

Yet they're still strutting around here like they know it all. This is going to be a fun offseason.

there are no "receipts" there

"more likely than not lamar stays in Baltimore"

you said it all in the first sentence

you weren't?

didn't notice... Must be that pink hat thing you like to try & rationalize... spending the previous seasons rooting for another team entirely

It was still the right decision to draft a RB who was useful in 2018 rather than a QB standing on the sidelines. They wouldn't have won in 2018 without the running game and posters would be saying the Pats haven't won since 2016.
The teams focus was short term focused that year by necessity. If the Pats spent a high pick on a developmental QB instead of getting weapons for the offense Brady would have staged an insurrection and the level of BB hate would have have started building much sooner.

This ^

The entire goal was to win rings in the immediate, not plan for years down the road.

Why wasn't this thread bumped after today's games... odd?

Five interceptions and 3 fumbles lost in six playoff games. He was 3-11 on third down today, missing wide open receivers, even on short swing passes.

BB shouldn't have drafted Lamar in 2018, he shouldn't have paid the moon to get him this season. He's a playoff poison pill.

Lamar truthers need to reexamine their QB evaluation process.

Patriots would not have been better off in 2020-2023 with Lamar Jackson at QB than Cam Newton, Mac Jones and Baily Zappe???
LJ is a great player no matter what happened today.
It was STUPID to draft Sony Michelle instead of Heisman trophy winner LJ. Nothing will ever change that. Colossal stupidity and stubbornness by Bill. Everyone knew it at the time and it still holds true today. Also YES he should;ld have broke the bank to sign LJ this year as well.

Was almost as stupid that he drafted Strange instead of first team all pro CB Trent McDuffie.

Patriots are the bottom of the barrel now and would have at least been a playoff team with LJ. Bill has f'ed up this team for many post Brady years thanks to his stupid arrogance and power hungry mania.

If you want to win Super Bowls, have a long career, etc, you better have more than superior running ability as a QB. It'll get you lots of press. It'll get you a decent amount of regular season wins. But running QBs age worse than running backs because there are NO plays off for them.

Lamar does great when defenses are scared he'll take off. It helps loosen up passing windows. Without that same threat, if there are no superior QB skills to fall back on, that's it. Those windows get tighter, and their effectiveness is at an end.

at what point do we look at this as a pattern with Lamar?

2-4 in the playoffs...

The thing is that when things broke down he didn’t even rely on his best trait which is running.

Multiple times he sat like a statue in the pocket for ages while running lanes where wide open for him to scramble.

There was even a 3rd down where he start to scramble, he could have run to the marker for the first but stop instead 3 yds short to try to throw the ball.

Lamar still looking like a limited passer when a capable DC forces him to play QB. Spags and his defense ***** slapped him.
God forbid teams force him to play QB....

He's been in the league 6 years but still plays the position like a rookie

Lamar Jackson is a talented player.

He is not a great player because he is not an elite passer for a position which requires it.
