#12 Jersey Interview: Jets OLB Marques Murrell

Major sack artist in college (36 sacks, 18 forced fumbles).

Hasn't gotten much past special teams his first couple years in the league.

Known for his motor and work ethic.

Could this guy be a serious contributor at LB under BB?

maybe he could turn into something more but IMO he is larry izzo, at best just a good ST player

Worst case scenarios he is cut, best case he can contribute on special teams and develop into a situational pass rusher. Great pick up, low risk high reward.

he could also be a 3rd down pass rusher

    Let me be more explicit:

Had Mike Vrabel accomplished much more in his career when the Pats acquired him than Murrell has?

One strip sack perhaps aside ...

Havent seen enough to judge, but from what we can tell, Murrell does seem limited to special teams, but Davis seems to have more OLB potential. He was a late bloomer at UCLA, now going into year 3. (Was drafted in the 3rd round same year as Crable interestingly enough)

    So basically we have:

    • TBC, who performed significantly last year
    • Cunningham, a new 2nd round pick
    • A few guys who have been marginal performers for us in various roles (Woods, Ninkovich, Burress if resigned)
    • A few guys who were awesome in college but haven't yet done much in the pros in a couple of years (Crable, Murrell, et al.)

    Well, yeah.
Thats the thing though, its foolish not to be encouraged that Crable could be healthy and be a good player there. But given his history so far he is totally unreliable. But when you realize we have a guy on the ps who plays the same spot and was drafted 10 slots later (by a team that is pretty good at picking LBs) and has spent 1 year on a roster and another on a ps. (Esp when he was a late bloomer in college)
Its kinda like having 2 shots at Crable working out. (insert joke about injury here)

Crable wouldn't still be here if he didn't have a shot, I don't think. I'm just looking at him like the other unknown quantities.
  17. how come the jets cut him? Don't they need OLB?

    Learn to read this forum.
The JETS almost won the AFCCG and therefore were poised to win the SuperBowl which they should be favorites to win this year. They have no weaknesses and no OLB needs. Their castoffs are better than our starters.
There, I'm no longer a Patriots homo.

Ah, but don't forget the Jets FO never makes a personnel mistake. They are masters of the draft, trades, and free agency. We could learn a lesson from them on how to build a team, so if they don't want this guy he probably... kicks puppies or something.

If we end up with a ILB rotation of Mayo, McKenzie and Spikes, I'd love to see Guyton get a shot at OLB. IF not OLB, at least a chance to pass rush, he has great speed and athletism. I realize that means we don't utilize his speed in pass coverage though. Spikes is said to be a decent pass rusher as well. It will be interesting to see who, outside of draftpicks and current rotation players steps up. We'll see what Crable or Davis have. Maybe Crable has just been unlucky with the injury bug.
