Reading this thread as a Pats fan since 1971 is sort of like skipping the Old Testament and only reading the New Testament. No locust plagues, no forty years in the desert, no idiot rulers... only football salvation. LOL

In the Brady and Belichick era:

QB Brady
RB Dillon
WR Moss
WR Welker
WR Edelman
TE Gronkowski
LT Light
LG Mankins
C Koppen
RG Neal
RT Vollmer

DE Seymour
NT Wilfork
DE Warren
OLB McGinest
MLB Bruschi
MLB Hightower
OLB Vrabel
CB Law
S Milloy
S Harrison
CB Revis

Toughest cuts: RB Faulk, MLB Mayo, OLB Collins, CB Samuel, CB Talib, CB Butler, FS McCourty.

tweaking it:

QB Brady
RB Dillon /3rd down: Faulk
WR Moss
WR Troy Brown, over Wes
WR Edelman
TE Gronkowski
LT Light
LG Mankins
C Koppen
RG Neal
RT Vollmer

DE Seymour
NT Wilfork
DE Ninkovich (more productive for longer than Warren)
OLB McGinest
MLB Bruschi
MLB Hightower
OLB Vrabel
CB Law
S McCourty (want more speed to complement Rodney)
S Harrison
CB Samuel (Revis had one great year, not enough)

I'd definitely have McCourty in there instead of Milloy, because you gotta have a free safety on the team.

And since there are so many specialist packages in there...

If we go pass-catching RB, Faulk has to be in there. And if we go nickel package, I'd definitely include Butler.

But man, think of those four corners: Law, Revis, Talib, and Butler. Holy smokes.

If you expand the list of players to the 70's and 80s I bet 1/2 of the players listed thus far aren't even in the discussion.

True.

Want a good mix of old and new? Take the 1985 roster and make BB their head coach. Or even 76 or 78.

Curious on how you'd rate our top 5 CBs in this era..

I'd go

Law
Revis
Samuel
Talib
Butler

I would love that all time roster but I would switch out Revis for Butler. I might also switch out Welker/ Or Edelman in favor of David Givens. Welker and Edelman are the same guys, Givens would diversify your offense a little more.

But who are the patriots best special teams gunners in the bb era?

But who are the patriots best special teams gunners in the bb era?

Best Special Teamers (Excluding Kickers/Punters)
Matthew Slater - Gunner
Larry Izzo -
Nate Ebner - Personal Protector
Lonnie Paxton - Long Snapper

In years past, the Pats have had McCourty line up as a gunner.. He hasn't had to do that with Brandon King and Jonathan Jones on the team now.

No Curtis Martin? What about a pairing of Gronk and Coates?

Here's the real question: Vinatieri or Gostkowski?

Beyond the time I have at the moment, but would be interesting if this exercise was done with just players the Pats drafted...

No Curtis Martin? What about a pairing of Gronk and Coates?

Martin didn't play for a Patriots Team that Belichick was the HC of.. Neither did Coates..

Here's the real question: Vinatieri or Gostkowski?

Gostkowski.. Vinatieri wasn't near the Kick-off guy that Gost is.. Even when he was doing kick-offs..

We should be shooting for a "Best Of Belichick" 53-man...

QB (2) Brady, Bledsoe
RB (5) Dillon, Blount, Faulk, Vereen, Bolden
WR (6) Moss, Brown, Edelman, Welker, Branch, Slater
TE (3) Gronkowski, Watson, Bennett
OT (4) Light, Solder, Vollmer, Cannon
OG (3) Mankins, Neal, Andruzzi
C (2) Koppen, Andrews

DE (5) Seymour, Warren, Hamilton, Pleasant, Jones
DT (3) Wilfork, Washington, Branch
OLB (4) McGinest, Vrabel, Ninkovich, Hightower
ILB (4) Bruschi, Mayo, Cox, Izzo
CB (4) Law, Butler, Samuel, Revis
S (5) Harrison, McCourty, Milloy, Chung, Ebner

K (1) Vinatieri
P (1)
LS (1) Paxon

Toughest cuts: Otis Smith, Roman Phifer, Jamie Collins, Daniel Graham, Benjarvis Green-Ellis, Stephen Gostkowski

Would probably put Andre Carter over Pleasant, Hernandez (lol) over Watson, Lewis over Vereen, and Seau or Ted Johnson over Cox.
