Kevin Faulk: Newest Member of Pats Hall of Fame

Well deserved.

He was kind of like our own Roger Craig. He could catch and run with it, run inside and out, had some sneaky power of sorts for a smaller guy with good body balance. His early fumbling issues went away with a focus on ball security and was a good kick returner, too. As an all purpose, scatback of that era, he was the best. A winner, gamer, and always got better as he aged throughout his career. I can't find a better compliment than that.

Love it. I don't think any player in NFL history made more clutch plays per touch than Kevin Faulk. He could have Ten touches in a game and eight of them would be critical to the win.

One of my favorite all-time Pats and one of the only jerseys I own. Congrats Kevin!

Troy Brown comes to mind. I'd say Faulk is the RB version of Troy Brown. If each played in earlier eras (40s, 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s), they'd very possibly be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Isn't there a senior vote every couple of years?

The problem is, too many Millennials vote, and they have no respect or any idea who the older players are.

Clayborn should get in next year. They need to start getting the 70s/80s guys who should be in, wearing red jackets.

Well that and the dynasty era Pats are fresh in the mind.

I get it. I just think they should cancel the voting until the older, deserving players get in first.

It's just a shames some have passed away before being acknowledged.

I then see Denver putting John Lynch in to their ring of fame and it makes me want to puke.

Lynch, if he ever got into Canton, is clearly a Buccaneer. He ended his career in Denver, but it's not like he did anything of note. Blech, I hate Denver, Elway and all they stand for out there, right on down to their pukey and ugly uniforms and logo. haha

Meanwhile, there are guys who played here most if not all of their career, and were great players, and just because they weren't fortunate enough to get a ring, many forget how good they were. Or, like you said, simply do not know.

How did Julius Adams not get in there? Really good player for 15 years in NE. A rock.

They need to change their procedure for letting these guys in. The current procedure is great for a JAG team but when you have the greatest twenty year run in NFL history you need a procedure to accommodate for that level of success. If they should be in then get them in.

How about instead of voting for just one player, have each player voted for separately and decide by a specific percentage threshold.

They want the buzz and the controversy. I can think of 10 players who are just as deserving as Faulk who should be in NOW.

Vrabel
Ray Clay
Ted Johnson
Tony Collins
Leon Gray
Roland James
Fred Marion
Pete Brock
Seymour
Tommy Addison

Can't agree on Tony Collins, Roland James and Fred Marion. Heck, Id put Vincent Brown in over them.

How about we recruit one of our grammatically gifted posters to draft a letter to the FO to temporarily change the process.

@Ian- can you make this happen?

I would have had Kevin as my third choice this year, but after the draft, I voted for him anyway.

He deserves to go in, but it had to be this year if only to say FU to the commissioner.

Love the pass to Tom off the direct snap -- big responsibility not to get the GOAT killed on that play.
Direct snap to Faulk - He and Tom sold it so well. Like the goal line pass to Vrabel - you knew it was coming, but teams just couldn't stop it.

I don't disagree with your premise being as many people had no idea there were actually some pretty terrific players pre-2001. Whenever we write about anyone or anything on here from pre-2001, people just skip right over it as most people think it all begin with Brady and Belichick. I'm really interested to see what happens some day when those two are gone and fans see a [gasp] 8-8 or 5-11 season again... I think we'll see the herd thin out pretty quick. I was actually credentialed in Jan of 2000 for Pete Carroll's last game and there were hardly any writers there for that one, and I think there were also quite a few empty seats in the stadium that day (I believe it was against the Ravens). Losing definitely changes everything...and the board was definitely pretty quiet in 2000 after the middle of the season forward.

But to answer your question, I'm glad Kevin got in but I do agree there are also other deserving players. The problem with the process is the vast majority of the fan base wasn't around when the older guys played, so they tend to get the bad end of the deal in that regard. It kind of goes in groups, you've got people like me that jumped in around 1992 when Zolak made a little noise and then really in 1993/1994 when Bledsoe came on the scene and they started winning, so I know a lot more about what happened from that point on vs before that period because I watched it week-to-week. I've obviously read quite a bit from the years prior to that, but it's clearly not the same thing as living it.

From there you've got the others who jumped in back in 2001 and there were likely a lot of casual ones who jumped in during 2014. That's just how it goes and it obviously causes a little havoc in these situations. So it's definitely a flawed system in that regard.

As far as writing a letter, I usually tell people who want to contact the team to do it with a real hard copied letter vs an email, and send it via FedEx or UPS so that it's seen and stands out a little more. They'll see it, whether or not anyone does anything about it is another story.

Faulk embodies the Patriot way - both on and off the field. In some ways, he co-created the Patriot way.

It was close between the three nominees, but when he walked on stage at the draft, he completely leapfrogged the others.

Good list. Ted Johnson had a tough career though - he could have been been an NFL hall of gamer if he played in The 60's or 70's. He was a stud battering ram middle linebacker, but he looked absolutely lost in pass coverage throughout his career. He became a situational player with Belichick due to this lack of versatility. I don't think he makes the cut in the pantheon of great NE linebackers.
