Long Snappers Enjoying Rise in Recruiting

Ohio State, Alabama, and Notre Dame are starting to uses scholarships for the position. Meyer and Saban are close to BB as well. So the value of long snappers is starting to rise even in college, and in back-to-back years, long snappers were drafted. It's not the most important position, but some treat it like any guy on the street would be fine.

I have always been intrigued by the high level of commitment and admiration US citizens bestow upon the armed forces. It is an interesting phenomenon.
Until it's time to provide veteran'so benefits. Then the Grand Old Party decides fiscal responsibility dictates blocking them. Otherwise they might have to close some tax loopholes for their cronies.

New England Patriots rookie coming to Maine for Navy duty

a little more detail on his Navy expectations/uncertainty.
I don't understand why everyone is saying he is out for the year. Based on that article it sounds like he is in good with his superiors and they want him to be able to fulfill BOTH of his commitments. It's not like training on a warship is a 24/7 job, they get shore leave and downtime. I am sure one day a week he could fly down to practice to keep the timing up with ghost and find someplace with 15 ft and a wall to snap on everyday in his spare time. Then fly in on Sunday's and viola he keeps both commitments. Sucks for him that he won't have any personal time but that's what he signed up for.

Other than Cardona, four - FOUR - have been drafted in 15 years. And one of those was Belichick's boy Robinson. Maybe I'm wrong about the value of long snappers but long snappers are almost never drafted. There's nothing else to say.

So they are almost never drafted. That doesn't mean anything. The long snapper is the 2nd most important position on punts and 2nd most important position on field goals..

BTW, not sure who this Robinson person is, but the other LS the Pats drafted was Jake Ingram. The only Robinson that the Pats have drafted under Belichick was Zac Robinson, a QB, and Greg Robinson-Randall, a Tackle.

I think your numbers are wrong in regards to the Long Snappers who have been drafted. Are you using Draftsite.com to get your numbers? Because they aren't accurate since they don't have the Pats drafting Jake Ingram.

The NFL's secret disaster scenario is an injured long snapper

Oh snap! Life of an NFL long snapper a pressure-packed gig

Inside long snappers’ unique transition to NFL

I've yet to see anything that supports your idea that Long Snappers are "a dime a dozen". On the contrary. I have found that they are very valuable, have some of the longest careers if they are good and are often unknown because of it..

BTW, not sure who this Robinson person is
I wasn't clear, I meant Robinson the new Lions GM from here who drafted a LS this year in the 5th round.

Moving on from the Long Snapper thread.

I think you are forgetting, pats attract a lot of non-American fans.

I'm not forgetting it at all. I understand that some liberal democratic countries don't see their military in the same light as we do. Some countries just haven't evolved to our way of thinking yet. :D

Uhhhh, sorry to disappoint but my navy friends traditionally were on 6-month cruises away from home port. If the DD is in navpac (Pacific) (and seatours havent changed ) that means visiting Hawaii, phillipines, Australia, Japan , and trolling the S China sea to annoy the commie Chinese. Weekend trips dont work so good when the one-way flight time is 14 to 19 Hours.

Fair enough I was under the impression they were going to be doing tests around San Diego based on that article. Either way I did not see anything confirmed one way or the other so I will hold out hope that they will make it work. Until I see real news saying his out then it's next man up and I will be disappointed but understanding as cardonna was invisible thus really good

Not sure what planet or bus from the local insane asylum you just got off, but the current leader of the Ds is the UNDISPUTED king of crony capitalism.

And for every incident of GOPers "cutting" ( Democrat parlance, which in real world speak their 'cuts' means NOT using 'baseline budgeting' and instead of increasing a budget by a pie-in-the-sky 8% target, only increasing the budget by 4%) a benefit; i could identify 5-10 dem cuts or freezes or directing Army budgets to go fund studies of deer mice in Idaho.

Couldnt let the travesty pass, but this is the football side of the forum and i would prefer not to go down that road. So please take your uninformed exaggerations of an ideological bent down the road to the political forum

To be quite fair, without the US armed forces the world would be speaking either German, Japanese or a mix of the two. That alone should be enough.

I've obviously struck a nerve. I only mentionned that it was intriguing. This logic is false. The Nazis had already been extended and would not have succeeded - but you would be correct in saying that in WWII the US greatly contributed to the Ally victory.

Devil's advocate would also say that without US armed forces that there'd be much less uncertainty in certain parts of the world, such as the Middle East.

Back to the original statement : I was only stating that your country seems particularly fond of the military and I don't get the impression other Western countries are as such. A poster specified it hadn't always been the case and I found his answer very informative. Born in the 70s, Vietnam was never a topic of convo around here.

Again, it's because other western counties armies didn't pay the price that ours did. At Normandy, we took Omaha the worst and most heavily defended part of the beach. Vietnam was a mess because of misguided public officials and civilians. The Middle East isn't a problem because of the West. It's a problem of pre modern countries wanting everyone to be like them.

But whatever. It is what it is.

So instead of being stationed 3 hrs one way drive in Bath, ME he will be back in RI? Assume yes?
