Post Draft Scouting Report: Cyrus Jones

This was one of the picks I liked at the time and still like. I think all the talk of him being a slot corner does him a disservice. I think he can play inside and out and he just seems like a Patriot: well coached, competitive, hard worker, team leader etc. His size doesn't scare me that much - he is the same size as Butler. If he can cover then he can cover.

How many players could we have picked who could have come in and improved the team? I can really only think of 3rd/nickel corner (and added punt returns), running back and interior o-line. Unlikely a rookie was cracking any other spot (apart from maybe cover linebacker).

In that regard I see Jones and Thuney as really good picks.

Agreed that Jones is a possibility to play the outside corner. It will be interesting to see how the Pats view these corners in terms of slot or outside guys. I see Jones/Ryan/Roberts battling for the outside spot with the loser (s) battling Coleman in the slot. I was impressed with Coleman's rookie year so I don't think he'll be a pushover there.

Jones should've been the pick at 91/96, where his value more properly placed him.

His height limitations will always, always hinder his effectiveness, and because of that he never should've been a consideration with the 60th overall pick.
