Can anyone keep the Pats out of SB51?

Harper's muff didn't help matters but I contend that the phantom OPI's and non-calls are what did us in.
That and 25 cents will get you a three minute local call at a pay phone in your area...if you can find one...

Locked doors/gates (but only temporarily :p)

I don't disagree that it's based on optimism but it's also based upon the belief that Bradys training program is unlike any QB before him and if he's right about it then he could play as long as he thinks he might. I agree with him and believe the focus on pliability over strength training, as well as his focus on his core and his mechanics are all going to keep his arm lively long past the point where most give out. I do understand that this is not proven and that the historical evidence is all on the side of those who don't believe he can do it but I still believe he will prove the skeptics wrong.

If I were betting on it I would say 4 more years but I no longer rule 7 out.

I sincerely hope you're right. You won't be, though, if he continues to get hit like he did in 2015. That was simply unacceptable.

Agree completely I just believe that Belichick and Scar will fix that issue.

No matter what happens, the Patriots won't be playing 4 rookies on the Offensive line, again. Hopefully BB will find a RB, but so far hoping for only fragile Dion Lewis is wishful thinking, I fear.

But in BB I trust.

You could say that the Pats were kept out of last year's SB because of teams like the Eagles and Dolphins. If they win either of those games they probably make it to the SB, and considering Cam Newton's meltdown, they probably would have won it.

Getting that AFCCG at Gillette was HUGE. I think outcome would have been different. I don't think Denver's Def would have been that dominate and last place they want to play is in Foxboro, different mindset there. And with that said we were a missed xtra pt/2 pt conversion away from OT and a possible trip/win in SB.

It's so hard to say without seeing how a draft pans out. You really only need one good draft to be a contender to win it all. If we hit on the average number of players and upgrade a player at CB, OL, RB and/or LB I think we keep our distance ahead of the pack but if an Oakland gets a lights out safety and another player or two they may make the jump. Or any of the contenders can say the same thing.

I expect the Patriots to be highly competitive once again, barring major injuries. That has been the pattern lately, but it hardly means that "no one can stop them," or that the AFC is somehow automatically theirs.

We have this same conversation every offseason, and yet they've still managed to see victories in only the divisional round in 3/4 past years.

Don't be ridiculous, by that logic half the teams in the league can find some warped series of events that would have their team lifting the Lombardi. The team that hoists the Lombardi is the ones that overcomes everything from injuries and bad luck to bad weather and bad calls. It's not a debating trophy. Just as Seahawks fans have no right crying about the Patriots championship Patriot fans have no right to cry about the Broncos championship.

I don't get that analogy.

Patriots overcame a fluke catch with a goal line interception to seal the game in SB49.

In the regular season game at Denver the Patriots couldn't "overcome" OPI calls on Gronk who had DB's hanging on him like a jungle gym. We couldn't "overcome" a season scripted to give Manning a 2nd superbowl ring before his retirement just like we couldn't "overcome" that officiating masterpiece in the 2nd half of the 2006 afccg where Manning went on to win his first superbowl.

Given the inherent murkiness of holding vs. opi, if the refs are given marching orders by the league to get a certain result, the only way to "overcome" this is by running every down.

It's the price of being a fan of this team. The league keeps doing us dirty but they accuse us of cheating.

Pats will be the obvious favorite. Injuries will be the obvious primary roadblock.

As to other teams, the AFC (the league, really) doesn't have a hell of a lot of great teams. Pittsburgh will be there, and I assume Baltimore will be better. Oakland will improve, but their jump will be to a winning record, not contender status.

And some team will surprise, that usually happens. But the Pats will be the team to beat.

Pittsburgh, and that's the only certain one.

Houston and Oakland if both live up to what their potential could be. (No I'm not crazy)

Injures are the big X factor but on paper you have to like our chances. I think our competition will come from one of Pitt, Denver, KC, Cincy or Houston. Don't see anyone in the afc east challenging us.
Let's just hope we stay away from injuries and our line can block for Tom.

Did i tell anyone i love blond haired women born in 1992?

Ravens always play NE tough

People are underestimating the Broncos. Yes, they lost Trevathan and Jackson but they still have the majority of their core (Miller, CHJ, DT, Sanders, Anderson, etc.). If that squad can carry the corpse of Peyton Manning they can absolutely do it again with Mark Sanchez (who is actually better than Manning last season!!!).

1. Injuries
2. Pittsburgh
3. Cincinnati
4. Denver
5. If some random AFCE team makes it to the Playoffs, that team. Division games are hard.

We would have secured HFA in that regular season game against them but for a ref screw job. They would not have beaten us at Foxboro in the AFCCG. So YES, the refs DID keep us out of SB50.
The Patriots have only themselves to blame for not securing HFA in the playoffs. A loss against NY and then one of the most bizarre season finales I've ever seen them have against Miami was their own fault.
