So trading up in the draft is a moot point, and the only way the Pats pick on the first day is if they somehow trade back up into slots 30 or 31.
That would be such a Belichick move.
" Take away my first round draft pick? We'll still find a way to get one...."

Now that you guys mention it, I think it would be incredibly interesting if the Patriots traded up into the first round on Draft Day, just to see how the League steps in to enforce their rule....

I know that the punishment is supposed to take way the highest 1st rd pick possible; like if Pats FO somehow found a way to trade for a 1st rd pick (above their original #29 slot). But I seriously wonder how the League would step in if such a trade actually happened on the actual draft night. Like, if if it happens just before we get into the late 20s of the draft, is Goodell going to freeze the draft-clock to sort out how it all goes down? Like, imagine if it was a 3 way trade or something a bit convoluted involving NE getting new 1st rd pick. Do you have to clarify what NE now has/doesn't have? Can Goodell just take away the new 1st rd pick and give the original #29 back? What if Ne acquires a higher 1st rd pick, but then trades back down in the early 2nd rd before they are on the clock?

Really (it'll never happen) but I just want to think of a potential scenario where Belichick pulls off a draft-day trade that forces Goodell's hand and embarrassingly puts him on the spot to determine how to enforce his own annoying rule.

My first thought was a middle finger statue too. lol But how about hiring a lookalike North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Or better still as they won't understand what it means, a piece of card with the below on it being held by a Doc Brown lookalike.

But what I would truly love is about 50 or so Patsfans to buy the tickets for the event and throughout it sing like English football supporters they stole our picks, they stole ourrrr picks, the dirty fraudsters stole our picks.

Put in a Pinocchio puppet with the nose fully extended wearing a Goodell jersey in the booth and have him reading an ideal gas law book.

I hope not. This is not that good of a draft to be trading up. If anything, this was the draft to trade down. So it may not even make a damn bit of difference that jolly ol' Rog and his merry band of asshats decided to dock the Pats their 1st. That was a pick that I could easily see the Pats trading.

Send in a stupidly intoxicated Fitzy and let him record a live episode of Townie News.

Of course they should. What if someone really good falls?

they would have to fall to the 2nd round for it to mean anything for the patriots.

no first round pick, and can't trade into the first round since the highest first round pick is forfieted, so sure maybe someone drops to 29, but are they really worth 2 first round picks?

I'd wager a guess as no.

Everyone at the table should wear shirts from barstool sports with the roger Goodell clown nose and ESPN lies.

Honestly, if they're not going to man the booth, at least put a pole in there with some dancers from the trashiest gentleman's club in the area. Don't inform ESPN, the NFL, or NFLN and let them get a nice, little surprise when they pan to the Pats war room.

the 'take my marbles and go home' mentality is for the birds

making a statement while present would be worthwhile.........

everyone wears giant onesies or snuggies like

That player wouldn't "cost two first round picks." The first-round "parity penalty" is independent of any players they draft, and shouldn't be factored into the equation.

Put guys in the booth and have them pretend to be on the phone the entire time and hand up cards every few minutes and all they have on them are pictures of ****s with "Suck it Goodell" written below!

Umm, you do know Ian is hoping for fans to tune out of watching the first night, right?

I know. That's why I said it should be the trashiest strip club in town. ;)

I'm not sure where you get "two first round picks" from. The only cost would be whatever it costs to get into the first. I'm not saying they should do that, just that they shouldn't dismiss an opportunity because of petulance. This team prides itself on preparation. That shouldn't change.

The cost to get into the first round, in addition to the actual pick(number 29) used to select the player.

Value wise pick 28 starts at 660

The patriots first selection(60) is worth 300

Obviously these are all just numbers, none of it really means anything, but if other teams were going to make the patriots pay straight up value for value it would take
both the patriots second round picks(60+61) in addition to probably our third round pick(91) to move up to the 28-26 area, which then gets forfeited and the patriots then drop down to 29.

So here is the Rub, a player might fall, but the patriots then don't get the chance to move up and take him when he is available, the patriots get to move up in the hopes that he will still be there 1-3 picks later.

In short, any thought that the patriots will be trading into the first round this year are insane, and those people should consult a mental help facility.

You never know what offers will come down the pike, and there could certainly be some negotiating for day 2 and day 3 picks.
