Note that it's the early first draft and there'll be lots of tinkering to do between now and the draft. I've tried to limit it to prospects that I think are athletic fits and that suit our needs. Currently there are 88 names on the board. I hope to narrow that down once we get through FA.

Top 11. Hopefully we get one of these, two if we trade either Jimmy G or Chandler Jones:

  1. Jason Spriggs
  2. Josh Doctson
  3. Jonathan Bullard
  4. Leonard Floyd
  5. Cody Whitehair
  6. Chris Jones
  7. Braxton Miller
  8. Le'Raven Clark
  9. Shon Coleman
  10. Kenneth Dixon
  11. Joshua Perry
Obviously as we go through FA and pro days - particularly for prospects that didn't work out at the combine - this board will change. I'll update regularly over the coming two months.

Just a word on my categories.

  1. Starters - Should be able to start year one and will be a key starter in time
  2. Eventual Starters - Like above but may take a little longer to establish themselves
  3. Future Non-star - Projected to start at some time but could be improved upon.
  4. Roster Depth - As it says.
  5. Back of Roster - As it says. these guys will be fighting to make the 53 man roster.
  6. UDFA - PS at best unless we get lucky.

Because of lack of time due to work and a lack of interest due to scamgate I just haven't put in the time this year that I have in the past so I haven't commented much even though I do have opinions on certain players. I just don't feel I can argue Jones vs Peters like we did last year as an example (and we were right so I like that example :) ) with the same knowledge base.

I do enjoy reading your stuff and you've almost sucked me back in several times. I just know once I start I'll go full tilt and try to condense what I normally start much earlier into a month and get nothing else done.

That said from my watching of the college game this year I like all the players on your top 50 list which makes me sad because they all will be gone in the top 50 and some likely the top 20 (Floyd). The Pats are going to need to trade up in the second and if they do I hope it's for the OL unless they don't resign Hicks which I pray they do and then I'd be happy with the DL.

Question: what does Dixon get you that Smallwood doesn't....I am asking because I see Smallwood as being much better value in round 5-6 than going with dixon in round 2.

I like Spriggs and Bullard

I've used around 220lbs as a yardstick based upon what they were looking at in the draft last year. Smallwood came in at 208 I believe. I did consider him because of his good combine but I wasn't overly impressed by what I saw so he didn't make the cut unfortunately.

Found this guy yesterday as an interesting TE prospect. a little slow at 4.71 but had a 6.88 3-cone. He's a former basketball player.

Surprised you have Chris Moore so low. I don't think he's a scintillating talent or anything, but I'd rate him higher than a UDFA.

Runs a very limited route tree and I wonder how much more he is than Brian Tyms. Having said that, I just took another look and he's pretty good at the one thing he does so I moved him up just a little into the bottom end of the late roster/PS group.

I've moved Charon Peake up into the late 2nd early 3rd round range. Plays in a similar fashion to Brandon LaFell. My only concern is his bad 20 shuttle, the 3rd slowest amongst WRs at 4.46. I've also dropped Tyler Boyd one place behind him. I really like Boyd's receiving skills but I don't know where he plays. Doesn't really have the size or explosion to play on the outside and lacks the athleticism and quickness to play in the slot.

I really like the lists you have put together.

You have a bunch of day 3 players I hope bb picks.

I may have missed it, but I did not see Reynolds from navy on your list. I love that kid and thought he should have won the hiesman.

I refuse to look at this until I get my board more complete, but I am like a kid who has been told not to peak inside a shiny box. It might kill me. I cannot wait to be able to compare/contrast our lists.

Overall I like your list. However of your top 11 most will be gone by the time the Patriots pick at # 60. LaRaven Clark is not worth the pick at #60. I would love Perry, but he should be long gone. There is an outside chance that Doctson or Miller last until #60. Dixon fumbles way too much for BB to draft him. More likely Howard from Indiana is the RB of choice with the next pick at #92. Would BB draft Jaylon Smith while he is recovering and might not be able to play at all in 2016?

He's on there although I forgot him on my initial run through.

Clark is that high because of upside. I think he can be Cordy Glenn or better, and also partly because I don't like the OT class that much after him. I realise that there are players that likely won't be there by 60 but there's always an outside chance of people falling or of a trade up (Chandler Jones?). I decided to include the prospects I like - Braxton, Jack and Bullard have been my two favourite prospects all the way through this process (At least I left myles Jack off :) ).

As for RBs, Jonathan Williams is my guy but I take your point about fumbling on Dixon. That might change. I'm not a fan of Howard personally. My outside bet for a Pats RB is Brandon Wilds of S Carolina who is like a more athletic BJGE.

Finally, I have Shon Coleman potentially falling, he won't work out between now and the draft. I think he's more likely to be the caller we pick. I think the risk on Jaylon Smith is to big unless he's there on day w. His injury is supposed to be similar to Marcus Lattimore's so I think there's a good chance Smith doesn't see a snap in the NFL at all. I personally wouldn't risk a day 2 pick for him.

This is how I see Devon Cajuste. He's an intriguing move TE candidate:

I have a much reduced big board currently but I feel like I'm nearing completion although I'm flummoxed on WRs and CBs.

Some little talked about names I think are potential picks for us:

Keanu Neal - Just a hunch -=but he seems like the type of leadership guy BB likes. Tough to see how he fits on the roster, but bear in mind, The Pats have had contact with Su'a Cravens and Miles Killebrew who are similar.

Willie Henry - interesting DT. lance Zierlein compares him to Star Lotulelei. I don't think he's that, but Henry would be good cover for Easley. One of the more athletic DTs in the class.

Nick Kwiatkowski - It depends on whether McClellin is considered a Mayo replacement or more of an Edge/SLB type guy. But Kwiatkowski is another high character, intelligent potential 3rd LB. Good all round skill set.

James Bradberry - Outstanding size, very good athleticism. Would be that Talib/Browner guy who can go up against the bigger WR/TEs we face.

Chris Moore - Thanks to @reamer , I took another look at Moore and was impressed with what little there was avaialble. A good day 3 option for that outside WR.

Connor McGovern - Maybe not a starting RT but not beyond the realms of possibility. He was one of the most athletic OL at the combine, has been worked out by Dante and plays almost every position on the OL. Well worth a RNd 4 pick to me.

Like I said, just some guys on the radar that we haven't been talking that much about.

Literally every guy on your list is on mine. I considered taking McGovern off because Guard might not be a need anymore and I think that is McGovern's position in the NFL. I like the player though. I have seen little on Bradberry, but I am intrigued by him as well. Really like the top 3 guys as fits for this team.

McGovern's length isn't terrible. I think he can play RT at a push. certainly worth trying him out there and pushing him inside if it doesn't work out. He has experience at both OT spots and at guard.

It couldn't hurt to try him there.
