Foxboro cops: Pats' Chandler Jones sought medical help early Sunday

My gut feeling is you'd be shocked at how many players are "ingesting this crap 6 days before a game (playoff or not)". That's coming from someone (me) who has never tried any illegal drug and rarely has a beer. But I bet a ton of players smoke pot in season.

1) This wasn't pot smoking. This was way more dangerous.

2) This wasn't during the regular season

This affects his PERFORMANCE. If he had taken up cigarette smoking and binge drinking that would be legal also and really stupid for an athlete 6 days before a playoff game.

This isn't the Babe Ruth era. These athletes are finely honed machines and MOST of them are taking excellent care of themselves to gain a performance edge. What #95 did in this case puts him at a disadvantage when he goes up against the left tackle of the KC Chiefs.

Chandler was not "doing his job".

I don't think anyone's saying what he did is fine or cool or won't be something of an issue for him when it's time to renegotiate his contract, but if people really think this is going to cost him 10-15m in potential earnings I think they're overreacting.

$10-15m does seem high but he absolutely shrunk his list of potential suitors which potentially shrinks the size of the contract value.

One thing I do know..........pass rushers are paid very well. He should be able to land a big deal somewhere.

Definitely. Especially considering Sheard is a better player and Ninkovich is the anchor at LDE anyway.

If Sheard was the better player, why has he gotten 0 starts over Jones? Not bashing Sheard cause I love the guy, but Jones is an essential defensive piece.

I would say over 60% of NFL players smoke some form of weed during the season and playoffs. It helps with pain.

The idea of a wake n bake with that crap.......yuk

At least with the real stuff you can go to the dining hall and get 7 lbs of pancakes and watch cartoons afterwards.

My preference is Sheard. More consistent, more versatile.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jones is benched a series like Wes. I'd be shocked if he was benched longer because I agree we'll need him.

Just saying, I don't think a lot of these guys have the lifestyle that you and I do.
Reminds me of this picture, just taking a pic with Snoop should be enough to suspend someone for smoking weed lmao.

Fully agree.

But teams aren't hiring Babe Ruth anymore. If you aren't taking care of your body and mind 6 days before a playoff game, then your file in every franchise's personnel department has just been devalued by millions of dollars.

And rightfully so.

I don't think Gronk's parents are going to let him play with Chandler anymore .

Once again, this is far more dangerous than smoking weed.

What is "synthetic"? Is that like K2 and stuff or is it wax?

I assume it's K2. I kinda get it, since the NFL doesn't test for it, but it ****s you up so much worse than the real thing, as this whole saga demonstrates. When's the last time someone went to the hospital for a marijuana overdose?

He really should know better, and you should just get horribly, irresponsibly drunk on bye weekends like the rest of us.

Once again I don't think a lot NFL players care because it helps with the pain. Players do a lot of things before games that I am sure would shock you more than this story. These guys are still human and have normal lives.

I'm just glad he's okay. I'm sure the team has his back and will bring them closer together.

Never be irresponsible. Always have a designated driver and make sure you don't puke on your girl or piss your pants.

:p

I bet a lot of us would be shocked to learn exactly how many players smoke this stuff. Especially players who are already in the substance abuse program, since they can smoke it without worrying about testing positive. It's way worse than weed, absolutely, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's about as common among players.

Agreed, but again, I'm betting that a lot more players were drinking and/or smoking weed this weekend than we realize. We want all of these guys to be Tom Brady, but it's just impossible to field a team with 53 of those guys. The Pats try harder than anyone, and this may lower his odds of staying here long-term, but I don't think it'll cost him much on the open market when he hits FA.

He already seemed like kind of an idiot to me, for reasons I can't totally pinpoint, so this pretty much just cements what I already suspected. I've thought all along that locking up Collins and Hightower should take priority over him, so it wouldn't surprise me if this changes little in the way of the Pats' long term plans. I doubt they drafted Flowers and Grissom while signing Sheard for no reason.

Wouldn't be surprised one bit if goodell suspends him.

I didn't read all the posts. I responded 2 summers ago to several Spice overdoses. What had been told to me is they become extremely hot and pass out. Its like dealing with someone on heroin and they are on the nod when the smoke Spice. Very addicting and one guy I use to deal with all the time told me he had crazy dreams about it and would do anything for it.

We arrested a female who had smoked it while driving and she passed out behind the wheel and crashed into the curb. The City of Manchester NH had 30 overdoses in one weekend and that is why it is banned in NH.

We seize it and have it tested and charge them now.

The HUGE hint would be that it is written on the packet, "Not for human consumption" and people still smoke it.
