Ryan Allen Was Quietly a Difference Maker vs Houston Sunday Night

Ian Logue

Punters are players who don't tend to get a lot of attention, but Ryan Allen is quietly having a terrific season and Sunday night was a prime example of how important he is to this football team.

He is having a great year, against Denver I thought he was almost the MVP of the game.

The only quibble I would have with this article is this ranking:

INSIDE THE 20 – TOP FIVE NFL PUNTERS:

1) Johnny Hekker – St. Louis – 80 punts, 35 inside the 20 (44%)
2) Marquette King – Oakland – 64 punts, 31 inside the 20 (48%)
3) Dustin Colquitt – Kansas City – 60 punts, 29 inside the 20 (48%)
4) Ryan Allen – New England – 58 punts, 27 inside the 20 (47%)
5) Brad Wing – NY Giants – 56 punts, 26 inside the 20 (46%)

Yes, Johnny Hekker leads the league in the number of punts landing inside the 20. However, he's had 20 more tries at it than Allen. He shouldn't be rewarded because he had more tries at it. I would change that ranking to this:

INSIDE THE 20 – TOP FIVE NFL PUNTERS:

1 ) Marquette King – Oakland – 64 punts, 31 inside the 20 (48.43%)
2) Dustin Colquitt – Kansas City – 60 punts, 29 inside the 20 (48.33%)
3) Ryan Allen – New England – 58 punts, 27 inside the 20 (46.55%)
4) Brad Wing – NY Giants – 56 punts, 26 inside the 20 (46.42%)
5) Johnny Hekker – St. Louis – 80 punts, 35 inside the 20 (43.75%)

Logan Ryan was a beast out there aganst the Texans shutting down a top 5 WR in Hopkins. The one catch that was made was just a perfect play by Hopkins.

Who would have known that Butler/Ryan are as good or better than Revis/Browner. You have to give BB and company credit

Lets lock Up Logan now 4 years 25 million?

Hopkins actually pushed off on that play :(

slightly, it was a great play, that extension by Hopkins is ridiculous and almost impossible to stop. He's been amazing this year and it's a credit to Ryan for shutting him down.

Ryan Allen has been money since he was drafted. As good as his punting is, he's a great holder, and he is probably better at handling bad snaps than anyone who has ever played the game. He handled snaps from Dan Aiken for 2 years and never missed one.

We had great field position all night. Great game by Allen.

When I watch other NFL Teams sometimes their ST and kicking game is an adventure, for the Patriots all of this high level of play is a given.. we have all become accustomed to this excellence. A blocked kick causes a frantic reaction.. that stuff happens, and will happen again.

On any Sunday our kicking game is the best in the NFL..

You mean like the adventure they had in the Denver and Philly games.

I was floored by those two games. So very unPatriot like. Really makes you appreciate how good they have been over the last 15 years.

So this has morphed into a Logan Ryan Allen thread?

Can we find a way to acquire Allen Robinson to extend it out?

He's been one of the best in the business since day one, lets remember he outpunt Mesko who was also a good punter.
