This move is about next season
If you look at it Collins Hightower and Jones need to be taken care of.
Mayo may decide he doesn't want to restructure.
Jones could be the odd man out as well but I have a feeling it's Nink.
This is letting him learn the system this season and then calculate the drop off from Mayo to Bostic next season.

Bostic is not a DE. Why is Nink part of the discussion?

Mayo will be released and allowed to test the market. It's 50/50 if he comes back.

I'm going to give Jon Bostic's first few seasons a wash for a few reasons:

1. Marc Trestman was a bad coach
2. John Fox is an average coach and Denver's LBs haven't exactly been great over the years
3. The verdict is still out on Vic Fangio because he was spoiled with Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman
Those 3 coaches are the equivalent of Ron Meyer, **** MacPhearson and Steve Sidwell.

Most of what I had read last night said he was horrible in coverage. That was disappointing to me. Didn't add up.

I don't think they would trade for this guy if he was hopeless in coverage.

This article lends me to think that he can be pretty good to n coverage and might be a victim of a bad system and lousy coaching.
Sounds like BB is hoping for a Mike Vrabel repeat.

I think Fox is a good coach, not a great one but a good one. Surprised Bears have been so poor so far.

I'm simply lumping the entire front seven together.
There is only so much cap to go around unless you are Denver.

Goodell is on the rampage, the Patriots are not supposed to be getting worse not better.

This reminds me of Akeem Ayers and Jonathan Casillas last year, guys who struggle in other systems, but come here and the Pats utilize their strengths to help them..

Bostic knows that coming here will jumpstart his career, and probably provide lucrative financial rewards.. much like Ayers and Casillas..

What's different this time, though, is that they have Bostic under contract for 2016 also!

Respect. But you're way off here . . . WAY off. Unless his play becomes non-existent or he suffers some kind of major injury (and even this may not do it entirely), Ninko is not going anywhere next year. Apparently the way you view him and the way the coaching staff does are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

He has been to two SBs so he certainly is not awful. I defended Fox while he was at CAR near the end of his time there but IMO he underachieved in DEN. Not very tough teams.

Mayo was a bad contract. People here said he was one of the top middle linebackers in the game. Since his contract, he's spent 2 years injured and now is basically a backup. A lot of money to pay for a guy who only plays half the snaps this season and hasn't played the last two.
And I don't think its about scheme -- if he was better, Bill would figure out a way to get all 3 linebackers in there -- 3-3-5, 3-4-5, 4-3-5. Only reason we're using 4-2-5 for half the snaps is because Mayo isn't playing up to his expectation.

I think it's more that injuries have done him in. Prior to the injuries he was one of the top middle linebackers in the game and was paid accordingly. Then it has gone downhill through no fault of Mayo's.

DEN...lol

I view Bostic as Mayo's potential replacement.

Reiss says he doesn't anticipate Bostic cutting into Mayo's time. Im not sure I agree. While Mayo looks to be moving around ok he clearly is not the same Mayo.

Or too many men on the field.

BTW, Bostic is 1 year younger than Jamie Collins. :)

Here is the scary part....What if Hightower is hurt? He was missing for a while on Sunday. Otherwise, it really doesn't make much sense.

For a while?

He played 41 of the 57 defensive snaps(coming off when Patriots went with 6 DBs) . Collins played 47.

I would not call it a bad contract. They couldn't have predicted that he would end up on IR two years in a row, as he wasn't really injury prone before. Mayo is not the same now as he was two years ago. The Mayo of two years ago, or even before his injury last year, was worth making sure you had on the field as much as possible. Now he doesn't look as good anymore. The injuries have taken their toll. Atleast right now. Mayo is not living up to his expectations because he got injured. Not because he wasn't really good before.

The only reason for us using a 4-2-5 is not Mayo. It's because Nickel is the new base. 3-4-5 is 12 players. So is 4-3-5. So 2 out of 3 of your ways of getting 3 linebackers on the field are not legal formations. BB seems to prefer using 4 DL and 2 linebackers in his nickel package. It gives us good pass rush ability as well as good run stopping ability on the line.

He wasn't a "bad contract". He got hurt.
