theScore - Report: Bears trade Jon Bostic to Patriots

Trade is dead. Bears said it comes with a free Jay Cutler in which BB politely declined and the Bears then said the trade actually had to include Cutler. They got as desperate as to include three first round picks, the Chicago Cubs and the key to the city before BB finally had to hang up.
I'ld buy on the Cubbies right now.

belichick is a genius...
this guy will be good. god, the bears are a dumpster fire. they got the 1st pick next locked.
I was saying that last night with a friend of mine.

I'ld but on the Cubbies right now.

One thing for sure, Bostic must be pissed off going from the Bears to the Patriots who do not have any fun - they just win. Poor guy.

Bears fans seem happier than Texans fans were when we traded for Martin...uh oh.

Seems like he might be a tweener? If so, maybe it might be viewed as a replacement for Ninko? Ayers was also used a lot as a DE.

What makes you think that? His college scouting reports say he's a run-stopping ILB.

Who would have guessed that Belichick would make a habit of obtaining 3-4 misfits to stick into his 4-3? Obviously people will compare this to Ayers (and rightfully so), but I'd include the Sheard signing in there as an example with a much higher investment. Seems to me that the guys that only fit in a 4-3 are pretty good value, and we know how much Belichick loves value.

Bostic sucked with the Bears and was often injured. we will see if he can play any meaning ful minutes with the Pats

6th round? You never know until the guy actual plays some snaps for the Patriots, however, this is approaching a steal.
Consider: Evaluated as higher round talent then had quite a lot of tackles last year on a dysfunctional team. To me this indicates he is likely to be a positive/contributor when coached up/around BB's team (again not certain but likely).

To me the risk/reward makes this almost a no brainer.

Where is Ninkovich going?

Ninkovich is probably my favorite Patriot player apart from TB, because he has made himself into an absolutely indispensable Patriot through hard work (I still remember all of those Ninkovich is a JAG threads years back) and professionalism. I wouldn't be surprised to see him a coach someday, he reminds me of Mike Vrabel. Just a true pro.

However, even though nobody in his right mind would get rid of Ninkovich, BB is always thinking years down the road. Except for QB and Kicker (two positions that age much more slowly), the oldest members of the Patriots are (in order) Ninkovich and Vollmer. Both are still absolutely still at the top of their game, and I would argue that both are under-rated players. However, it would be surprising if BB isn't thinking a few years down the road. He gave a $3M/year contract to Marcus Cannon (which many didn't understand), I suspect he might be the long term replacement for Vollmer. It wouldn't be shocking if BB wasn't starting to think about long term replacements for Ninkovich, his oldest player apart from QB and K.

BB started planting this seed 12 years ago.

Get the league all infatuated with the 3-4, switch back to the 4-3 and snatch up undervalued talent. Bingo!
