There were a lot of rumblings last year when the Ray Rice incident took place.

I know it would be a tough sell to New Englanders because of political views that get in the way of everything... but she is a very bright woman and has stated her dream job would be NFL commissioner.

What's the single thing the Bush Administration is most famous for?

Punishing Saddam Hussein for something he didn't actually do.

While our children's children will continue to pay for War on Iraq (both financially and metaphorically)...I wonder how much of that was Condoleeza Rice. Publicly, she "supported" the war vs. Iraq/Saddam...but she seems too smart to do that.

A tough sell to New Englanders? How about a tough sell to the folks who matter -- the owners? What owner is going to sign off on a female commissioner?

Love Condi but not a fit. Plus I think she is above the job. I'd like to see her run for President TBH.

Wouldn't mind Carl Fiorina get a look-see. Fmr CEO. Went to Stanford. Dropped out of UCLA Law. Ran billion dollar companies. Used to dealing with old, crotchety rich men.

No. The owners prefer a yes-man buffoon.

She was bad at HP. Wrecked everything that was left of what was special about the company.

All her government credentials are in what is widely agreed to be one of the worst disasters in US history, and I don't see a path for her to add further government credentials to "write over" that. Nor do I think academic credentials make much difference from an electability standpoint.

Also, but I think this is less telling: The last US president whose main credential was Cabinet and similar executive branch service was Herbert Hoover. The last one who hadn't been a VP, governor or senator was Eisenhower. I can't even think of anybody without one of those three credentials who got very far in the primaries, although there might be room for debate around one or the other long-serving representative.

That said -- Donald Trump. So maybe we're in a time when patterns will be broken.

FWIW I was a student and then staff member at Stanford when she was provost there. My recollection is that she was a wildly unpopular administrator, but did make fabulous and expensive upgrades to the provost's office. Should be perfect for Roger's job. :)

I don't want anyone politically connected.

The Compaq acquisition was stupid. Right idea. Wrong plan of execution.

Keep in mind she took over right when the dot-com bubble burst. A lot of companies' stock hit the toilet.

She could have done better. Many CEO's in that era did worse.

It all comes down to whether or not you think it was right or wrong to go into Iraq. Out of respect for Ian and the purpose of this board, I don't want to get into it.

Her book outlines her current position and retrospective opinion on what the Bush Admin did right and wrong.

My personal opinion is that Condi is overqualified to be NFL Commissioner. With that said, I think you need someone with a marketing, legal and sports background.

Rice's fundamental philosophy is that might make right. That's too much like Goodell for my liking.

I'm not sure Condi isn't a yes woman buffoon.
I could not tolerate Carli Fiorina's plastic face. In addition, not only was she a spectacular failure at HP but they also had issues with spying on the Board of Directors etc.

I certainly don't object to having a female commissioner, but any actually human being could have made better decisions in the Ray Rice incident than Goodell.

Has she ever ran a business?

She would be perfect then. She let the Cheney crowd walk all over her on the way to the Iraq war.

I'm not talking about stock prices. I'm talking about the "feel" of the company in my interactions with them in various eras. I'm also talking about the spin-off of HP's original businesses, via Agilent. HP went from being an iconic, always-admirable company to just another computer maker, in an era when computers were ever more becoming commodities.
