From Bleacher Report: Owners don't want to appeal Deflategate decision

I've posted this before, but this was from the Washington Post on July 23:

“I think other owners are concerned about what this means to the commissioner’s credibility,” the high-ranking team official said. “Do they care if it’s four games or two games or one game? I’m not sure they do. But they would like to see the commissioner emerge from it credible and looking like he’s dealing from a position of strength. I’m sure there are some [owners] who are anti-Patriots and jealous of their success. And then there are those who have to play them in the first four games.”

Anybody think the first group of owners got what they wanted?

I wouldn't do a victory lap just yet. Regardless of what happens to Brady, Goodell and the gang of 31 have already gotten their pound of flesh from the Pats in the form of draft picks.

My guess is they filed the appeal for PR reasons. They wanted to make sure the story was that they felt the judge got it wrong.

I am guessing they will never follow through with the appeal. They have only filed notice. They will just let the deadline pass for the actual filing date of the appeal and hope no one notices.

It's going to be interesting that's for sure. I agree that they most likely only filed notice as it takes more time to construct a specific response to Berman's findings. If the owners decide to bail out will be the owners version of Kraft's capitulation and we get to best the haters over the head with it from here to eternity. As I said in another thread the ice is cracking under Goodells feet and he knows it. I'm not sure he can risk losing on appeal as it will destroy his ability to rule going forward.

Here are two excellent articles about Roger Goodell. The first one by one of our favorite writers Sally Jenkins and the second by Kent Babb.

From Kent Babb's article:

If a proposal was rejected or a decision skirted, Goodell’s default response by 2011 was to hunker down — or to explode. During collective bargaining negotiations with the NFL Players Association in 2011, Goodell’s face turned red so often that union representatives often spent mornings predicting which of the day’s topics would send the commissioner over the edge.

“That’s what I remember: ‘I bet he’s going to turn red when he hears this,’ ” said a former NFL player who was involved in the discussions. A few times, the former player said, Goodell would storm out of the meeting room, leaving a few franchise owners — often Kraft, Richardson and Jones — to resume negotiations while Goodell cooled off.

I don't think Roger is losing confidence but the owners might be. RG seems to be oblivious to the way he is being played by his own staff/employees so I would think his confidence is sky high after they threw the victory party for him the other day.

Victory party? I haven't heard about that.

One of the funniest people on the planet. I could watch his standup all day long.
The pride of Canton, Mass.

He is hysterical.

Remember when the storyline was the 31 other owners were cheering on Goodell and they were ecstatic in the way he was handling Deflategate and how this was winning them over after losing them with the Ray Rice fiasco?
Oh yeah.

they can withdraw it at any time

I don't think they even have to withdraw it. They haven't actually filed the appeal. They filed notice of an appeal. It would have been impossible for them to write an appeal in an hour after Judge Berman issued his ruling. I think they have a certain period of time to file the actual appeal and if they let that date pass, the appeal is dropped automatically. If this is the case, this is how they will do it so it is less likely to be noticed by the media.

Yah screw you goodell you piece of crap

Let's see if this happens. But I have been striking out today but hopefully this my only hit. haha

It would probably be reported on BSPN at 12:05 am.

He'll always be welcomed at Met Life

Only the Green side of Met Life, just like all his little subordinate cronies. Going there is like a Homecoming festival...

If I was Bob Kraft, I would demand transparency on everything that happened regarding deflategate starting with the Pats/Colts game during the regular season. Given how much money was spent on this clusterf*ck, I think accountability for everything that transpired including individual communciations between all involved. Somewhere along the line, the train flew off the tracks, somewhere around the decision to run a sting rather than a formal communication prior, if there was indeed an issue.

Goodell has plausible deniability because it can be argued his minions did this independently. Paint 'em into a corner and force Goodell to rat out his buddies.

Kensil and Pash should be thrown under a bus because the league's basis is not guys like them....it's the players

The tide is turning!

The tide is turning!

it's been turning.......the league is now looking at consecutive high profile f*ck ups.......more owners will care about the negative publicity more than the actuals of deflategate........they simply don't need the attention

Unfortunately you aren't Bob Kraft. I see him returning to the bosom of the brotherhood of owners and his pal Goodell with whom he is fine. This will be like the aftermath after the camera incident, nothing is spoken and on draft day there is no first round pick for the Pats. Let no one here be surprised if Goodell screws up again and Kraft helps to protect him and the Pats are subject to another sham violation aimed at BB and Kraft capitulates again. I just hope that the irrational blind spot kraft has towards Goodell is not perpetuated by Jonathan.

How Jonathan should address the NFL FO to the other 31:
