Training Camp Thread 8/8/15

I also think that his performance would increase if he knew he was the starter in that role, vs. being Vereen's backup last year. Knowing he was the top guy might motivate him to improve his routes, hands, etc just a little bit more.

That said, I would definitely prefer White, Cadet or Lewis to win out. Hopefully Cadet's injury isn't bad. I haven't really seen anything on Lewis outside of one tweet last week.

I'm not sure I understand this logic. I think that it would be great if Bolden looks good enough in camp and preseason to be the primary 3rd down back, showing us that what he needed to succeed was reps and experience with the system.

This might even allow the team to carry one fewer running back on the 53 man squad: two "big" first down backs and two 3rd down backs, with Bolden also playing lots of special teams. I would also note that Bolden is OK as a backup 1st down back.

Bolden
Pick 2-3 for the 53: Gray, Gaffney, Cadet, White, Lewis
And yes, we can can keep an additional player for Game One.

Damn, that's a ton of passes to Boyce. Maybe he can actually make a move this year if he can put the pieces together.

Also interesting to see White and Bolden about even in receptions. IMO, Bolden wouldn't be the worst thing in the world as a 3rd down back/change of pace back. He's not Vereen, but he would at least be dependable.
Bolden isn't even close to explosive enough to be a 3rd-down Back.

I'm not sure Boyce is good enough only as a WR to make the team. I'd like to see him returning kicks this pre-season. If he can do that, might be enough to make the squad. Don't want to risk Amendola to injury. I think Boyce is best with the ball in his hands. In addition to the kick-offs, I'd like to see some quick screens to him that are like laterals.
It's been years since NE had a viable KR, it seems. They have not been a threat in this area in many seasons. Cadet figures to be someone to watch in this area. I seem to remember them trying Boyce before as a KR and I remember it being a bit dry. They'll definitely give him plenty of looks in TC.

BTW, has anyone heard a thing about James White so far this camp? IMO, not a great sign, for him or us, that he hasn't been frequently mentioned by any of our camp observers or local press.

Jeff Howe:

They took away our unbalanced line so BB comes up with a new all-QB kink to scupper the Ravens and Colts.

With the 6'7" Gronk and Chandler, I really think they're going to throw in some confusing tackle eligible plays somehow.
